As what I have witnessed in our country, we are very far left behind by
those industrialized first-world countries in terms of technology utilization in
schools. Firstly, industrialized countries have schools that have better access to
electricity, rapid internet connectivity, and modern equipment. Digital devices
such as laptops, tablets, and smart boards are often accessible to most
classrooms. Secondly, cloud-based learning platforms such as Google
Classroom, for instance, are also common and accessible to students. Thirdly,
students have an easy access to online resources given the fact that they have
stable internet. Lastly, their education is highly digitized, meaning superior
technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual classrooms are
integrated into their curriculum. On the contrary, many of the public schools in the
Philippines, specifically those that are situated in rural regions, encounter
frequent problems like unstable internet connections or, worse, absolutely no
signal, inconsistent electricity flow, and a lack of advanced digital devices such
as LED TVs and printers. Due to the scarcity of digital devices and other
resources, teachers may rely on traditional teaching methods. As what I have
remembered from the pandemic, most schools in our local area used the
modular method, especially those in remote areas that are far from the town
proper. Meanwhile, those who are inside the vicinity of the town proper are
privileged enough to choose whether online or modular learning. We are still
lucky enough to have access to printed materials during that era to alleviate the
hindrance of teaching, as teachers are distant to their students, inadequate of a
proper teaching and learning experience. As a developing country, we may not
have that advanced and superior technology, but as a matter of fact, we are
slowly but surely having control over the accessibility of various technological
resources as we enter the realm of the digital era.

1. Describe the 21st century learners compared with the learners of the
yesteryears. (5 pts)
The learners from the 21st century are very distinct compared to those
learners from yesteryear. The 21st century learners have access to a huge
amount of information through smart devices, the internet, and other digital tools.
They can quickly access the internet and surf educational contents to gather
information, unlike learners from yesteryear, when information was limited
because it was only provided by books, libraries, and inside the classroom.
Learning before also relied on teachers, which required more effort and time,
causing students to depend on the teacher as the source of information.
There are various teaching methods that are applied in the 21 st century.
Firstly, it includes blended learning, which is a combination of traditional face-to-
face instruction with online learning components. Students engage with digital
tools and resources, such as virtual classrooms, learning management systems
(LMS), and multimedia content, while still benefiting from the guidance of the
teacher physically. Moreover, flipped classroom is also introduced; this approach
includes the teacher providing materials outside the classroom, such as videos,
documents, or other digital resources, and using the class time for activities,
discussion, and collaboration based on the materials provided beforehand.
Furthermore, project-based learning (PBL) is also applied in the 21 st century.
Students spend a lot of time working on projects or issues from the real world.
The emphasis is on creating a final product or presentation by conducting
research, coming up with solutions, and using interdisciplinary skills. In addition,
gamification is a common method that is utilized as well. Incorporating aspects of
game design into instructional activities to involve students. Both physical and
digital games increase engagement and enjoyment in the learning process.
Lastly, collaborative learning is a method where students work together in groups
or teams to solve problems, complete tasks, or explore topics. This method
emphasizes cooperation, communication, and shared responsibility for learning
outcomes.
