Present Simple

 We use Pr.Simple for everyday activities, for


habits, for states and general truths.
I go to work every day.
On Tuesdays I go to work on foot.
I love jogging.
The Earth is round. (we all know that)

NB: with the verbs like, love, hate we add a


verb in the –ing form
Ex: I love eating ice cream.
I hate running.
I love coffee. I love eating. I love running

Tense markers (words that show the tense):


every day, every week, twice a day, every
month, on Sundays, always, usually, often,
sometimes, never

 The verbs do not change except in the 3p.sg


(3rd person singular)
I like We like
You like You like
He likes They like
She likes
It likes

 Negative sentences:
With I/You/We/They we use don’t – the verb
remains the same

I don’t watch football.

With He/She/It we use doesn’t – the verb


doesn’t change (we don’t add –s like in the
positive)

She doesn’t likes snakes. – we do not add –s to


the verb

 Questions

1.To form questions when the pronoun is


He/She/It, we put the word does at the
beginning
She watches TV – Does she watches TV? –
we do not add –s to the verb watch when we
use does
Does she play football? – Yes, she does. No,
she doesn’t.

2.With I/You/We/They we form a question


with do

I play football every week – Do you play


football every week?
Yes, I do . No, I don’t.

 Questions with Wh- word

Wh-words always stay at the beginning of the


sentence and after these words we form the
question as normal
Who, What, Which, How, When, Where
Do you play football every week? – What do
you play every week?

Does she eat breakfast every morning? –


What does she do every morning?
He comes here at night – Who comes here at
night?

Present Continuous

We use it for activities that we do at the moment


of speaking or for a limited time
The verb be + verb+ing = I AM TEACHING
I am speaking We are speaking
You are speaking You are speaking
He is speaking They are speaking
She is speaking
It is speaking

Negative forms:
I am not speaking
You/We/They are not(aren’t) speaking
He/She/It is not(isn’t) speaking
Questions:
You are speaking.
Are you speaking? Yes, I am. No, I am not.

He is speaking.
Is he speaking? Yes, he is. No, he is not/isn’t

He is playing at the moment.


Is he playing at the moment?

I am a teacher.
What do you work?
What is your job?

I am working at the moment.


What are you doing?

Present Continuous: at the moment, now, today,


this month, for two weeks
Subject = the doer of the action
In the evening she usually meets her friends for
coffee.
She usually meets her friends for coffee.
Always, usually,often,sometimes, rarely, never
I always have coffee for breakfast.
I am often busy.
I am rarely outside.
Write – writeing- writing

I own this place – This place is mine


I own a dog = I have a dog
I am having a shower at the moment = I don’t
own it
I am having a breakfast –

When you don’t like something you use:


You are always watching this stupid show.
