19. The honourable High Court of Uttarakhand has given ‘living entity’ status to
River Ganga. it means that now onwards Ganga has to be treated as a ‘living person’ with all
corresponding rights, duties of a living person in order to conserve Ganga River system . The
river is polluted by domestic, agricultural and industrial affluents. This River system is a lifeline
of Northern India .That is why ,its health has to be restored for the benefit of the people. a)
Why is Ganga has to be treated as a ‘living person’?
b) What are the causes of pollution of river Ganga?

20. Agriculture has been the mainstay of the Indian economy. Today ,the farmers’
welfare has become a focus to improve the conditions of the Indian farming system. There is
definitely a need to increase the net income of farmers ,reduce the cost of cultivation, enable
higher yield per unit and provisions of remunerative prices .
a) What has been the main state of Indian economy?
b) Suggest some measures which can improve the condition of farmers in India.
