Micro-Project Report
Rationale
This micro project includes a report on “Application of New Concrete
Materials”. The main aim of this micro- project is to study about the on
“Application of New Concrete Materials”.In recent years, the cement industry
has made continuous development, while there are more and more varie-ties of
concrete materials, and new concrete materials play an increasingly important
role in the field of civil engineer-ing. Compared with traditional concrete, it has
higher durability and strength, which can be consistent with the service life,
function and physical performance of civil engineering. On this basis, the
application of new concrete materials in the field of civil engineering is
analyzed in order to provide the corresponding reference for people in the same
industry.
4
Actual Methodology Followed
• For centuries, people have transformed and adapted many god-given structures, such
as caves to their homes, long before they embarked on a journey to create abode for
themselves.
• With the onset of civilisation, people began to settle & build their own residences. These
differed drastically based not only on people’s origin, taste or culture but also on the
easily available materials and environment around them.
• Similarly, a building is just NOT a house for people living in. It is much
morethan that. It has many components which gives the building its character,
strength, safety & identity, like its
foundation, wall, floor, stair, roof, etc.
7
• 6.1 Introduction
• 6.1.1 Application of New Concrete Materials:
It is generally known, materials are the foundation of civil engineering construction,
and various properties of materials directly determine the safety and stability of the whole
project. If there are certain problems in the materials themselves, it will directly affect the
subse-quent construction and the final construction quality of civil engineering. However,
with the development of new technology and new material technology, various new
materials are widely used in civil engineering, which greatly guarantees the safety of civil
engineering. Com- pared with traditional concrete, the new concrete has been greatly
optimized in many physical and chemi-cal properties. Fiber reinforced concrete, for
example, has great advantages in flexibility and can meet the de-sign needs of some special
projects. However, in the process of applying new materials, it is necessary to con-sider not
only the technical problems of materials, but also the related problems of material
management, and strengthen the management of materials from the aspects of material
procurement, material use and material stor-age, so that materials can better meet various
application requireme
• The basic concept of concrete :
Concrete, refers to the collective name of engineer-ing composite materials in which
aggregates are glued into a whole by cementing materials. Generally, ordinary concrete used in
civil engineering construction refers to a kind of artificial stone, which takes cement as the main
cementing material, and is mixed with water, gravel, gravel and other materials (mineral
admixture and chemical admixture added if necessary) in a proper pro-portion, and then is
formed by stirring, compact molding, curing and hardening, etc., so it is often called three-stone
soil. In addition, the strength grade of con-crete is divided according to cube compressive
strength standard. In China, the strength grade of ordinary con-crete is divided into 14 grades,
namely C15, C20, C25, C30, C35, C40, C50, C55, C60, C70, C75 and C80.At present, concrete
materials have been widely used in the field of civil engineering, which has the ad- vantages of
low cost, abundant raw materials, high strength, good durability and good plasticity. ts
disadvantage lies in the fact that concrete is a brittle material because of its heavy weight. In
recent years, in order to effectively improve the shortcomings of con-crete materials, China has
continuously studied and ex-plored them, and made substantial breakthroughs. For example,
various new concrete materials, such as high-performance concrete, reactive micro-powder con-
crete and fiber reinforced concrete, have appeared one after another and have been widely used
in the field
8
• Types of new concrete
• Fiber concrete:
•
Although the traditional concrete has great ad-vantages in hardness and strength, it has
some disad-vantages such as poor durability and low tensile strength. However,
theapplication of fiber in concrete can effec-tively solve this problem. The biggest characteristic
of fiber material is its strong flexibility, which can meet the defects of concrete itself. The
application of fiber mate-rial in concrete can significantly improve the physical and chemical
properties of concrete through a certain proportion. On the basis of meeting the hardness and
strength of concrete, the crack resistance and compres- sive strength of concrete are further
improved. Compared with other building materials, fiber materials can effec-tively improve the
toughness of concrete because of their mechanical properties, easy adhesion and dispersion
9
• Active micropowder concrete :
10
• Solid Concrete Blocks :
Since our inception we are effortlessly engaged in offering our clients a comprehensive
range of Solid Cement Block widely appreciated in the market for their durability and long
service life. Offered by us at affordable prices Brick Solid Block is fabricated using finest grade
materials combined with latest modern equipment. Owing totheir performance and reliability
they are widely used in various construction applications.
11
• Hollow Concrete Blocks:
Hollow blocks are specially made for loadbearing walls, which are useful in reducing a
deadload of masonry in buildings. Blocks can also be with cement and sand called cement-sand
blocks or with cement and soil called soil-cement blocks which are of low strength and use for
low-cost construction.
Concrete Masonry Units or CMU are known as hollow concrete blocks, concrete bricks or
concrete masonry. Concrete blocks are composed of Portland cement and aggregate, the high
density blocks may use sand and gravel while low density blocks use industrial waste instead
ofaggregate. Lightweight blocks are made using aerated concrete. The hollow concrete blocks
are manufactured , hardened and cured before reaching the site and is a very durable and strong
material.
They have a uniform size and have two hollow cores within it which make it very light inweight.
• The cores comprise of air pockets which make it a very good for heat insulation.
• They are very good for acoustics and sound insulation.
• They are economical and cost effective.
• It has a rough texture which allows good bonding between the concrete blocks and themortar.
• Good resistance against external weather conditions.
12
• The internal walls can have a reduced thickness as it is very strong.
• It is an ecofriendly material as fly ash can also be used to manufacture these blocks.
• Cement Masonry Units are fire resistant.
13
• Conclusion :
• To sum up, new concrete is the future development trend. In the process of applying new
concrete, it is nec-essary to develop the economy, reliability andsafety of new concrete
application from various angles, so as to better improvethe application of new concrete in
civil engineering.
