VAN GOGH
A. BACKGROUND
Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on 30 March 1853 in Groot-Zundert. He’s a child of a
Protestant pastor and a prosperous mother. He began painting when he was a child, where he was
encouraged to draw by his mother. His early drawings are known to be expressive. He created
approximately 2100 artworks in a decade, but only sold one in his lifetime.
B. FACTS
- One of his most well-known paintings, The Starry Night was done in an asylum.
- He’s mentally unstable since he was a kid, after he was transferred to London he suffered
from depression. This was due to his work as an art dealer.

- His linguistic abilities where he could speak German, French and English.
- He also had a unique style of painting with vibrant, bold and dramatic colors that he had
developed.

A musical child prodigy and one of the most important figures in composing in the classical
period. In his lifetime he created over 600 pieces of famous and loved music. He created music
in many genres including pieces of symphonic, chamber, operatic, and choral music.

COMPARISON
How does their memory impact their creative process?
Mozart and Van Gogh are similar in various ways, where they are proficient in their own
fields. Van Gogh possesses visual spatial intelligence where his work is affected by how he
perceives and analyzes visual information. Whereas Mozart, he was musically intelligent, He
was able to comprehend and produce musical rhythms and patterns. Both Mozart and Van
Gogh’s mental condition affected the way they work and how they were able to produce their
greatest work.
Their mental health issues affected their memory and imagination, which influenced their
creative process and creativity power. As for their brain hemispheres, it is believed that Mozart is
dominant on both hemispheres, while Van Gogh’s right hemisphere is more dominant. Van
Gogh’s struggles with mental health influenced the theme of his paintings. He uses dramatic
brush strokes and bold colors to convey his inner experiences of isolation, suffering, and the
search for meaning. As for Mozart, his ability to create music was caused by his perfect musical
memory and his great ability to read music. His autism affected him to concentrate intensely on
certain compositions. This allowed him to write compositions in a matter of hours.

As for their work ethics,Van Gogh is known to be very diligent and shows how genuine
he is through his work. When he’s kept in a mental institute, he still paints. This shows his high
level of diligence and perseverance. Mozart was a hard worker even though he was considered a
child genius, he worked harder than most. He spent around 8 hours a day practicing, performing
and writing compositions. This shows his dedication to his arts.

A. Mozart’s greatest work includes; Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Rondo Alla Turca, and The March
of Figaro. Mozart’s composition pushed the boundaries of classical music during the late
18th century. His music was versatile and showed his dexterity as a musician
