of each type A and B requires |3 and |4 for pesticides respectively, |2 and |3 for scent, |3 and |2
for colours. Condition on expenditure of each soap for pesticide, for scent and for colours is at most
6,000, 4,500 and 5,500 in a day respectively. Profit on one soap of type A and of type B is |10 and
|12 each. Formulate the above situation as a linear programming problem and find the number of
items to be produced of each type of soap to obtain maximum profit.

Solution.

Q. 101. Let A and B be two types of fertilizers available at |30 per kg. and |50 per kg. respectively.
Fertilizer A contains 20 units of potash, 10 units of nitrogen and 40 units of phosphorus. Fertilizer
B contains 15 units of potash, 20 units of nitrogen, and 10 units of phosphorus. The requirement of
potash, nitrogen and phosphorus is at least 1800, 1700, 1600 units. Formulate it as LPP in order to
minimize the total purchasing cost.

Q. 105. A dealer wishes to purchase fans and sewing machines. He has only |57,600 to invest and has
space for 40 items. A fan costs |960 and a sewing machine |1,600. He can sell a fan at a profit of |40
and a sewing machine at a profit of |200. Assume that he can sell all the items he buys. Formulate
the problem as LPP.

Solution.

Q. 106. A manufacturing company produces two types of batteries of low volt and medium volt. A
low volt battery requires one hour processing time on a machine and two hours of labour time. A
medium volt battery requires 2 hours of processing time on a machine and 1.5 hours of labour time.
In a week, the processing machine is available for 70 hours and available labour time is 60 hours. The
profit due to each of the low volt batteries is |60 whereas the profit due to medium volt batteries is
|75. Formulate the problem as LPP.
