Final Assessment Instructions: Data Analysis and


Visualization for Fictional Toy Store.
You’ve been tasked with analyzing a team dataset to create informative visual charts and perform calculations.
The dataset represents current sales data. Your report should include the following components:

Graphical and Numerical Statistics:


1. Expenditure Analysis:
o Consider all types of payments and the corresponding amounts.
o Compute the total financial charges for each transaction.
o Offer insights derived from these computations.

2. Product Type Distribution Visualization:


o Illustrate the distribution of different product types across the sales reports.
o Point out any discernible patterns or trends.

Charts and Visualizations:


3. Sales and Product Types Charts:
o Develop charts that demonstrate the correlation between sales and different product types.
o Employ suitable chart types (like bar charts, pie charts, or scatter plots) to effectively
communicate insights.

Formulas, Functions, and Formats:


4. Pertinent Metrics Calculation:
o Apply necessary formulas and functions to compute metrics related to sales, rebates, and
finance payments.
o Ensure your calculations are accurate and straightforward. (avoid overcomplicating your
formulas)

5. Report Formatting:
o Present your report in a clear and succinct manner.

Task Steps:

1. Open the Excel File and Save It:


o Open the file named “BISM_100_FinalExcel_TY_StarterFile.xlsx.”
o Save a copy of this file in your documents folder with the name
“BISM_100_FinalExcel_TY_ _(YourLastName-YourStudentNumber).xlsx.”
2. Apply Heading Style:
o Merge and Center A1:N1
o Apply the “Heading 1” cell style to the range A1:N1
o Apply size 14 bold, font to the range A2:D4, and Q9:Q11.
o Auto-fit all contents on the worksheet.
3. Convert Data to a Table:
o Transform your data range A5:M110 into a table using the “Dark Green Table Style
Medium 4.”
o Indicate that your data has headers.
4. Custom Sorting:
o Sort the table data in the following order:
 First, by “Trans_No” in Smallest to Largest.
 Then, by “Manufacturer” in A-Z
 Then, by Trans_Type, in A-Z
o Use the “custom sort” option under “Sort & Filter,” and remember to indicate that your
data has headers.
o Add a total row to your table.
5. Apply Conditional Formatting:
o Apply “specific text” conditional formatting to the “Payment Type” highlighting all
purchases that were financed. Use a colour combination of your choice.
6. Apply Number Formatting:
o Format columns J-M with Accounting, showing 2 decimal places.
o Apply “Number” formatting to columns E and I in your data table with zero decimal
places.
o Apply the “Percentage” format to cells C3 and B4 with zero decimal places.

7. Calculations using Functions and Formulas:


o Enter a formula in cell K6 that will calculate the 10% instant rebate from cell C3, from
the Purchase price, and copy it to the rest of the column. (Be sure to use absolute
references where necessary)
o In Column L of your table, create a formula to calculate the total owed once the rebate
is deducted from the purchase price.
o In Column M use the IF function to create a formula that will determine if the purchase
was financed by returning “Yes” if it was and “No” if it wasn’t.
o In cell N5 type Monthly Payments and hit enter. (Autofit contents of the cell)
8. Filter Purchase Types:
o Filter the data to show purchases with a Payment type of finance only.
o Copy the filtered data table and paste it into a new worksheet, starting in cell A6 (Paste
values only, do not copy the formulas)
o Name this new worksheet “Financed”
o Copy the range A4:D4 on the Toys worksheet and paste it with formatting to the same
range on your Financed worksheet.
o Navigate back to your Toys worksheet and remove the filter from your Pay_Type
column.
9. Create a Chart:
o On the “Financed” worksheet, apply any table style to your data set.
o Create a Combo chart with a Secondary Axis on the Purchase Price
o Change the chart style to “Style 5”
o Add your Name as the chart title and delete the Legend.
o Change the display units to show Hundreds on your vertical Axis.
o Move the chart to a new sheet called “Charts”
10. Personalize Your File:
o Navigate to the Finance worksheet and add your First name to the Left side of the
Header.
o Under the advanced file properties, add your first and last name to the Subject Line
field, your student number under the Manager Field.

11. Build a Pivot Table:


o Using the data from the “Toys” worksheet, create a pivot table on a new worksheet
called “Pivot Table & Chart.” Move the worksheet to the end of the workbook. (it should
be the last one in your workbook)
o Set up the pivot table with the following criteria:
 Columns: Department
 Rows: Sales Agent
 Values: Total Owed
 Rows: Manufacturer (as the sub row)
12. Apply Accounting Format:
o Format the Total Owed field, using the “value field settings” in the pivot table to
accounting format.
13. Adjust Pivot Table Layout:
o Change the style of your pivot table to White Medium 15
14. Create Pivot Chart:
o Create a Clustered column pivot chart, apply chart style 8.
o Move your pivot chart so the top left-hand corner is in cell K3, and the bottom right-hand
corner is in cell R19
o Filter the data on your Pivot chart so it no longer displays the data series for sales agent
Shah and remove LeapFrog from the Manufacturer.
o Filter the departments to remove Infants and change the colour of the “Electronics” data
series to standard Yellow.
15. Using Functions & Formulas:
o Navigate to the “Financed worksheet, using the PMT function create a formula in
column N of your data table to calculate the monthly payment for each purchase. Use
the Interest rate and terms in B4 and D4 and apply absolute references where needed.
Be sure to return a positive result.
o In a total row, create a formula to calculate the total owed, the average purchase price,
the maximum rebate given and the minimum monthly payment. Ensure all results show
no more than two decimal places. (Hint, your total row is NOT the one added to the
table it should not have copied any formulas from your first sheet, these formulas need
to be done manually).

o Navigate to the “Toys” worksheet and create a VLOOKUP formula in cells R9 and R11
that looks up the following: (Use cell referencing and the entire data range)
 In Cell R9, return the Manufacturer for the transaction number found in Q9
 In Cell R11, return the purchase price for the transaction number found in Q11.
o In cell N5, change the title to “Inventory ID”
o In cell N6 use a Text function to join the Item# with the Trans-Type using a – to
separate the values. Copy this formula to the rest of the column.
o In cell Q13 type Board Games- apply bold to the text.
o In Cell R13 use the COUNTIF formula to count how many times Board Games were
purchased.

o Save your work, ensuring you have checked all steps and submit to Blackboard.
