Q.1 What is GIS?

GIS, or geographic information systems, are computer-based tools used to store,
visualize, analyze, and interpret geographic data.

Q.2 Geographic information system has four parts mention them with
explanation.

1. a data input subsystem; 2. a data storage and retrieval subsystem; 3. a data

manipulation and analysis subsystem; and 4. a data output and display
subsystem.

Q.3 What is Software?

Software is a collection of instructions, data, or computer programs that are used to
run machines and carry out particular activities.

Q.4 What can geographic data be used for?

You can use geospatial data analysis to identify patterns, assess emerging trends,
identify potential threats and risks, and make data-driven decisions. Geospatial
analysis is critical in military planning, emergency response, and environmental
management.

Q.5 What are the two main differences between GIS map and paper map?
Normally a paper map is a single layer that presents all its information together. A
GIS system has many layers, for example topography (elevation of the ground), roads,
buildings, points of interest, aerial photography, underground infrastructure,
environmental habitat.

Q.6 Explain why data should be organized in layers?

Conceptually, a layer is a slice or stratum of the geographic reality in a particular area,
and is more or less equivalent to a legend item on a paper map. On a road map, for
example, roads, national parks, political boundaries, and rivers might be considered
different layers.

Q.7 Why is order of layers in GIS important?

Maps in GIS are composed of a series of map layers drawn in a particular order. A
map layer defines how a GIS dataset is symbolized and labeled in map views. A layer
represents geographic data such as a particular theme of data.

Q.8 What is GPS

Global positioning systems, also known as GPS, are satellite-based navigation
networks that provide time and location information anywhere on earth to a
corresponding GPS receiver.

Q.9 How is the world population growing?

Around 108 billion people have ever lived on our planet. This means that today's
population size makes up 6.5% of the total number of people ever born. This increase
has been the result of advances in living conditions and health that reduced death rates
especially in children – and increases in life expectancy.

Q.10 Define each of the following terms:

1. Densely populated: Population density is the number of people per unit of
area, usually transcribed as "per square kilometer" or square mile, and which
may include or exclude, for example, areas of water or glaciers. Commonly
this is calculated for a county, city, country, another territory or the entire
world.
2. Sparsely populated: simply means an area that contains few people.

3. Population distribution: is a measure of how spread out a population is in

any given area. The simplest way to measure population distribution is to
calculate the percentage of a population over a specific geographic area.

Q. 11. Why population change?

Population change is simply the change in the number of people in a specified area
during a specific time period. Demographics (or demography) is the study of
population statistics, their variation and its causes. These statistics include birth
rates, death rates and migration rates. All of these statistics are investigated by
surveys conducted over a period of time. Some demographic information can also be
obtained from historical maps, and aerial photographs.

Q. 12 What is Earth's most important resource?

Water is what makes our planet so unique and virtually everything on our planet relies
on it. Having clean water is vital to our individual health, our collective agricultural
needs, and the needs of our environment.

Q. 13 What are the main factors that decrease a population?

The two factors that decrease the size of a population are mortality, which is the
number of individual deaths in a population over a period of time and emigration,
which is the migration of an individual from a place.

Q. 14 What is human impact on the earth?

Humans impact the physical environment in many ways: overpopulation, pollution,
burning fossil fuels, and deforestation. Changes like these have triggered climate
change, soil erosion, poor air quality, and undrinkable water.
