JM – YOU DM – ME *honk* *no sound just action
JM – can this car move! You're in a bus lane ! (visibly frustrated)
- Awkward silence -
DW – uhm ... the weather is nice, isn't it? (nervous)
JM – Does it look like I care! We're on duty! (sighs) DW – Understood sir JM – (Gives a weird look) do you have any questions? DW – Sir, do you think I have what it takes to become an amazing police officer? JM – How about you ask someone that cares (calmly) DW - (surprised look, then soon stays neutral) Yes sir, sorry sir JM – Do you have any better questions (emphasis on better) DW – Actually I was wondering - (cut off by radio message) JM – A message! (mumbling) unit 127 dispatch to Manchester arena for a 10 -79 - A 10 –79! (starts speeding up) DW – Sir what's a code black (more confused than scared) JM – Did you learn anything in training? This is ridiculous! 10 – 79 means there's been a bomb! DW – A BOMB? (wondering whether its real) JM – (sarcastically) No a balloon! Of course, it's a bomb! DW – But what if we die! (scared) JM – That isn’t important. We are police officers; we must be prepared to risk our life to save the public. DW – But this would be my first mission, I don’t know what to do JM – And you will never learn without experience DW – But what if I mess up? JM – 1. you won’t and 2. this is the only way you’ll find out if you have what it takes *The car screeches to a stop outside the arena, with the sound of sirens in the distance. JM and DW quickly jump out of the car* JM - (Rushing towards the arena) Come on, let's go! We don't have time to waste! DW – (Following behind, breathing heavily) Right behind you, sir! -imagine chaotic scene at the bombing site, with smoke and debris everywhere. People are crying for help and trying to escape (BOTH ARE COUGHING OCCASIONALLY)- JM - (in- control of the situation) we need to assess the situation. We need to keep everyone safe DW – (Nervously) Y- Yes, sir! (attends to a wounded person, barely staying calm) - As DW tends to the injured, he comes across a familiar face among the chaos. It's their chief constable, Sarah, barely conscious and badly injured. DW – (shocked) Sarah?! No, no, no! (He rushes to her side, visibly shaken) JM – (Noticing DW's reaction) What's going on, DW? DW – (Frantically) It's Sarah, sir! She's hurt! We need to get to her now! JM – (Terrified, gazes at the chaos around them) DW, we can't stay here any longer. The situation's too unstable. DW – (Desperate) Sir, I understand the risks, but Sarah is part of our team! We can't just leave her behind like this! JM – (fustration evident in his voice) We must prioritize the safety of the majority, DW. We can't risk our lives for one person, no matter how much we care about them. DW – (voice slightly trembles) But she's hurt, sir! What if we find a way to get her out of here? We can't just abandon her! JM – (Angry, raising his voice) Enough, DW! We're putting ourselves and others in danger by staying this long. We must go. Now! - DW's eyes fill with tears as he struggles with his loyalty towards Sarah and the weight of their responsibility. He looks back at Sarah, lying unconscious amidst the wreckage. - DW – (Whispering) I can't just leave her here to die... JM – (Softening slightly) I understand your feelings, DW, but we must make a tough choice. We can't risk our own lives for one person.
- A distant explosion rattles their surroundings, intensifying the urgency of their
decision. Smoke and rubble continue to engulf the area, creating a sense of impending doom. DW – (Determined) I won't abandon her, sir. I'll find a way to save Sarah, even if it means risking my own life...
END SCENE (DW in the midst of going to sarah (around downstage) JM about to put hand on shoulder to firm him to stay)
