3 topics and construct your own problem

1 for age word problem

1 for mixture problem

1 for distance, rate, and time problem

Age Word Problem

Problem: Olivia is 10 years older than her sister, Ava. 3 years ago, Olivia's age was twice Ava's
age. How old is Olivia now?

Let Olivia's current age = O and Ava's current age = A.

O = A + 10

O - 3 = 2(A - 3)

Solution:

O - 3 = 2A - 6

O = A + 10

Substitute O in the first equation:

A + 10 - 3 = 2A - 6

A + 7 = 2A - 6

A = 13

O = 23
_Mixture Problem_

Problem: A farmer mixes two types of wheat: Type A (costing $8/kg) and Type B (costing
$12/kg). If they want to create a 40kg blend costing $10/kg, how many kilograms of each type
should they use?

Let x be kg of Type A and (40 - x) be kg of Type B.

Cost equation: 8x + 12(40 - x) = 10(40)

Solution:

8x + 480 - 12x = 400

-4x = -80

x = 20 kg (Type A)

40 - x = 20 kg (Type B)

Distance, Rate, and Time Problem

Problem: A cyclist travels from City X to City Y at 25 km/h and returns at 30 km/h. If the total
travel time is 6 hours, what's the distance between the cities?

Let distance = x km.

Time taken to travel from X to Y = x/25.

Time taken to travel from Y to X = x/30.

Total time: x/25 + x/30 = 6.

Solution:

x/25 + x/30 = 6

(6x + 5x)/150 = 6
11x/150 = 6

x = 82 km

After answering your own formulated problems. The following questions should be answered.

1. How did you formulate your own problem from the 3 topics mentioned?

Answer:I formulated my own problems by considering real-life scenarios and incorporating

variables and constraints relevant to each topic

2. How did you determine that your own constructed problem is aligned in the 3 topics
mentioned?

Answer:I ensured alignment by selecting problems that matched the topic's key concepts and
requirements.

3. What do you think of the level of difficulty you encountered upon constructing the problem?

Answer:The level of difficulty varied, but I aimed for moderate challenges.

4. How did you arrive at your answers.

Answer:I arrived at answers by applying mathematical concepts and logical reasoning.

5. Enumerate the steps you follow upon answering your constructed problems.

Answer: a. Read and understand the problem.

b. Identify key variables and constraints.

c. Develop an equation or model.

d. Solve for the unknown.

e. Verify the solution.
