Setting: My students are around 12 to 14 years old, and I know they’re really getting into social
media and online interactions. At this stage, they’re learning how to be more responsible with
what they say and do online, so I want to teach them about digital safety—things like posting
respectfully, avoiding hate, and realizing that what they share online stays with them. I’m
planning to use activities like role-playing, case studies, and creating mock social media posts to
keep it interesting and relatable. In our class, we have access to the internet, laptops or tablets,
and an online platform for discussions. Some of the challenges I might need to think about are
students with vision issues, limited access to tech at home, or language barriers for those who
aren’t fluent in English. To help with that, I’ll use tools like captions, screen readers, and
easy-to-read materials to make sure everyone can participate fully.
Podcasts are the medium that will allow students to hear personal stories and perspectives from
individuals who have experienced online attacks. By listening to these narratives, students can
empathize with the long-term impact of their language and actions in the digital world, even
when they can't see the person behind the screen. I would cover the key topics of protecting
personal information online, facilitate a discussion on the risks of oversharing on social media,
strategies for maintaining privacy like being cautious with sharing locations. I would also explain
how the explanation of words can hurt even in the digital context. More importantly, I would
look at tips for reporting and dealing with cyberbullying situations. The way I would deliver
content is by setting the stage with statistics and facts about online safety and introducing a guest
who shares their experience with online privacy. I would feature individuals to discuss the effects
of online attacks, maybe police officers who experienced these sorts of matters. There would be a
reflection on how students can choose their words wisely, and then discuss password security
and phishing awareness by presenting tips for password management and recognizing phishing.
My podcast on digital safety and online empathy closely aligns with curriculum standards. I
emphasize responsible online behavior, which echoes the ISTE standards for ethical technology
use, while also addressing the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning
(CASEL) framework that highlights the importance of understanding diverse perspectives. By
sharing personal narratives of individuals who have experienced online attacks, I encourage my
students to critically assess their language and actions, aligning with the Common Core State
Standards for literacy that advocate for analyzing various viewpoints.

Step 4: Evaluate
In my classroom, I would implement role-playing scenarios where students work in small groups
to act out various online interaction situations, such as receiving an inappropriate message or
encountering cyberbullying. After each role-play, we would gather to discuss the best responses
and explore how they could handle similar situations in real life. This approach would help foster
empathy and encourage responsible online behavior, allowing students to critically reflect on
their actions and reactions in a supportive environment. For the Digital Safety Poster
Presentation, I would have my students create posters that illustrate key digital safety concepts,
such as recognizing cyberbullying, understanding privacy settings, and practicing respectful
online communication. Once their posters are completed, each student would present their work
to the class, explaining the concepts they chose and how these ideas apply to everyday online
interactions. This activity would not only assess their understanding of digital safety but also
reinforce their ability to communicate these important ideas effectively to their peers.
Step 5: Reflect
