AGE WORD PROBLEM


Sophie is 12 years more than twice divine’s age. 2 years ago, Sophie was three
times as old as divine. How old was Sophie 2 years ago?

Sophie Divine Equation

Present S D S=12+2d

Past S-2 D-2 S-2=3(D-2)

12+2d-2= 3(d-2)
10+2d= 3d-6
-2d -2d
10= d-6
+6 +6
16=d

Present d= 16 S= 44
Past d= 14 S= 42—Answer

MIXTURE PROBLEM
40L of a 10% lemonade solution is mixed with 140L of a 30% lemonade solution.
What is the Concentration of the mixture?

10% 30%
40L 140%

C1 V1 + C2 V2= C3 V3
(10%) (40L) + (30%) (140L)= C3 (180)
400 + 4200= 180 C3
4600 = 180 C3
180 180
Answer= 25.6%= C3

V3= V1+V2= 40+140= 180L


DISTANCE, RATE AND TIME PROBLEM
Lawrence and Rex are driving toward each other at a rate of 50mph and 70mph
respectively. If they are currently 360 miles apart, how many hours will it take for
them to pass each other?
