CLASS SYLLABUS
Using the Ribbon
Download the worksheet for the class The worksheet is attached below.
Open Excel and click on different menus in the ribbon This will get you used to the interface
comfortable working inside of it.
Adjust ribbon settings Adjust to fit your style when Excel opens.
Workbook Structure
Type random characters in a worksheet This will get you comfortable with the way selection
Create new worksheets in your workbook Also, rename them!
Formatting
Input data into Excel Use any data you like, just drop it in there.
Apply fill and font colors using the Format Cells menu Change your number formats.
Center your data You will center across a selection and merge cells.

Select one range of cells with the trackpad Hold the COMMAND key.
Select another range of cells Apply autofill by clicking on the bottom right corner of your sele
Writing Formulas
Apply basic formulas Here are a few to get started:
SUM( )
CONCATENATE( )
LEFT ( )
MID ( )
Reference cells on the current worksheet Use SUM ( ) and formulas from other worksheets.
Lock cells Enter in the dollar sign ($) before the cell reference.
Use VLOOKUP to get a value This will easily get a value from a list of data.

Copy range of data Copy your entire range.
Apply a regular paste See results!
Paste special values, formats, and formulas Make sure you still have data copied.

Using the Ribbon
Steps
1) Click on different buttons on the ribbon
2) Hide the ribbon
3) Click on the settings gear at the top right for more Ribbon settings
Workbook Structure
Steps
1) Type stuff in the worksheet
2) Create a new worksheet by pressing the plus button to the right of all the worksheets
3) Rename the worksheets
Formatting
Steps
1) Change Fill and Font color for text to the right
4) Align the text to the right using the Ribbon and the Format Cells menu
2) Use Autofill by selecting the first few numbers and dragging the plus arrow down
3) Go into edit cell mode and get out of edit cell mode

Writing Formulas
Steps
1) Check out the formula bar at the top for cell J4 3
2) Add the sum of these orders together and find the average order size.
Use the LEFT() and CONCATENATE() functions
3) See what happens when you add the dollar sign ($) in front of cell references
4) An example for how to use VLOOKUP: find the show associated with the character
