MATHEMATICS AND MODERN WORLD

3 Topics and construct your own problems.

1 for Age Word Problem

1 for Mixture Problem
1 for Distance, Rate and Time Problem

AGE WORLD PROBLEM

Anna is 30 years older than Oscar, In 10years Anna will be twice as old as Oscar

40 20 ANNA = 2 OSCAR Ans: ANNA OSCAR

ANNA OSCAR x+40 = 2 (x+10) P Age = 40 - 20

PRESENT x+30 x x+40 = 2x10 F Age = 50 - 30

FUTURE x+30+10 x+10 40-20 = 2x-x

= x+40 x+10 20 = x

EXPLANATION:

To get their present Age. I made a table to divide the PRESENT AGE and FUTURE AGE of ANNA and
OSCAR in the column, To get the solution in ANNA I put x+40 and OSCAR is 2(x+10), and then I put 2
because the problem said that twice as old the represent twice as old, Then i solve it that way to get
x+40 = 2x10 and simplify it becomes 40-20 = 2x-x then the result will be the answer is 20=x so OSCAR's
present Age is 20 and ANNA's present age is 40.

MIXTURE PROBLEM

A mixture of 12% alcohol is to be made from 15% alcohol and 9% alcohol. How much of each is to be
used to end up with 30 liters?
15% + 9% = 12%

x 30-x = 30L

(15% )(x) +(9%)(30-x) = (12%)(30) EXPLANATION:

(0.15x)+(0.09)(30-x) = (0.12x30) The Question is how much of each is to be used to end

up with 30 liters? to Solve this problem is I made a box
100[(0.15x)+(0.09)(30-x)] = [(0.12x30)]100 representing each liters with the % of the alcohol, we
already know that we will end up with 12% is 30L the
15x+9(30-x) = (12)(30)
unknown Liters is with BOX 1 and BOX 2, so 1st we need
15x+270-9x = 360 to segregate the below to get rid of the % we will end up
into decimals and the to remove the decimals we will
15x-9x = 360-270 multiply each decimals with 100 then we end up with
15x+9(30-x) = (12)+30) the result will be 15x+270-9x =
6x = 90
270 and then we transfer the 270 to the right and
6 6 change the variables and the proceed 15x9x = 360-270
we will be going to divide them by 6 to get rid of the 6
x = 15 so our answer will be (x = 15)
ANSWER: 15L of 15% ALCOHOL 15L of 15% alcohol and 15L of 9% Alcohol.
15L of 9% ALCOHOL

DISTANCE, RATE AND TIME PROBLEM

Two buses leave the same station at the same time. Bus A travels east at 30 miles pers hour, And Bus
B travels west at 20 miles per hour. How far apart are the buses after 3 hours?

Bus Rate Time Distance

A 30 3hours D

B 20 3hours D

DSTANCE A = 30 mph x 3 hours

= 90 miles

DISTANCE B = 20 mph x 3 hours

= 60 miles

ANSWER: TOTAL DISTANCE

= 90 miles + 60 miles= 150 mph

EXPLANATION:

The Question in this problem is How far apart are the buses after 3 hours, So the DISTANCE is still
unknown,So to solve this problem the formula we will be using in this problem is D1=D2 to get
DISTANCE A is you need to multiply 30mph x 3 because 3 represents the hours = 90miles and the to get
DISTANCE B is the same process Multiply 20mph x3 = 60miles ADD both answer 90miles + 60 miles =
150miles that is the total distance of both buses after 3hours.

After answering your own formulated problems. The following questions should be answered.

1. How did you formulate your own problem from the 3 topics mentioned?

Answe: I tried my best to create my own by seeing how the sample videos responded and analyzing
them.

2. How did you determine that your own constructed problem is aligned in the 3 topics mentioned?

Answer:By reviewing it again and determining whether my personal problem is connected to the three
topics, I can ascertain that it is aligned with them.
3. What do you think of the level of difficulty you encountered upon constructing the problem?

Answer Based on my experience, I find my problem challenging because I must verify if its relevance
to the topic

4. How did you arrive at your answers.

Answer:by working through it and making a sincere effort to obtain the right answers.

5. Enumerate the steps you follow upon answering your constructed problems.

Answer:I watch videos to see how they respond to it. Second, I use my brain to solve difficulties. The
third step involves using a calculator.
