Grade: Third Secondary (General Sciences) Work Sheet (Dilation)

I-
The complex plane referred to a direct orthonormal system (O; u, v). Determine the nature and the elements of
the transformation T that is defined by its complex form in each of the following cases:
3
1) z' = 2z + 3 ; 4) z' = z+1
4
2
2) z' = z+2 ; 5) z' = – 2z – 5
5
3) z' = –3z + 1 ; 6) z' = – z + 3 (In this part, what can you say about T?)

II-
In the complex plane referred to a direct orthonormal system (O; u, v), write the complex form of a dilation h
with center I that maps A onto B in each of the following cases:
1) I(1; 2) , A(3, 0) and B(5; –2)
2) I(0; 1) , A(3, –1) and B(9; –5)
3) I(0; 0) , A(–3, 6) and B(1; –2)
4) I(2; –1) , A(4, 1) and B(3; 0)

III-
In the complex plane referred to a direct orthonormal system (O; u, v), write the complex form of a dilation h
that maps A onto B and C onto D and calculate the coordinates of its center I in each of the following cases:
1) A(3; –3) , B(4, –1) , C(–1; 5) and D(3; 1).
2) A(0; –2) , B(1, 0) , C(3; 4 ) and D(2; 2).

IV-
In the complex plane referred to a direct orthonormal system (O; u, v), consider the points A and B of affixes
6 and 3i respectively. Let (C) be the circle of diameter [OB], and (C') be the circle of diameter [OA].
Consider the positive dilation h that transforms (C) onto (C').
1) Calculate the ratio of h, and calculate the affix of  the center of h.
2) Write the complex form of h.
V-
In the following figure , we have :
 ABC is a direct right triangle at B such that
 AB = 4 cm and BC = 3 cm .
 (C) is a circle of diameter [AB].
 (Cʹ) is a circle of diameter [BC].
 (C) and (Cʹ) intersect at M and B .

Let h be a positive dilation that transforms ( C ) into (Cʹ).

1) Determine the ratio of h .
2) Construct the point N image of M by h.
3) Construct the center W of h with justification.
4) Construct the point E image of B by h.
5) Construct the line (dʹ) image of (BC) by h .
6) Deduce the image J of I by h.
7) Let T = h o h o h o … o h (n times).
Precise the nature and the elements of T.
8) Consider vthe sequence of points O0 , O1 , O2 , …, On such that O0 = O and h(On) = On + 1 .
Let dn = OnOn +1 ; (n ≥ 0).
a) Determine O1 and calculate d0.
b) that (dn) is a geometric sequence with common ratio and first term are to be determined.
c) Express dn in terms of n and calculate the smallest value of n so that dn < 0.1.
9) In this part, the plane is referred to a direct orthonormal system (O; u, v) such that A(–2;0) and C(2; 3).
Write the complex form of h and calculate the affix of W.
