INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS
MGT153

GROUP PROJECT (30%)

This Group Project consists of two parts:

1. Business Pitching Idea Presentation


2. Business Plan

A) Business Pitching Idea Presentation (10%)

1. Students in group of FIVE/SIX are required to come up with a business idea for a small
business. Students are required to brainstorm the idea of the business they want to do.
After that, they need to pitch the business ideas which contains the following elements:
 Describe the proposed business idea.
 Key activities and resources used.
 Reasons to choose the business ideas and the benefits of the business idea.
 Identify target customers.
 Marketing strategy to use.
 Identify the cost occurred and the sources of revenues.
 Students should bring or show a prototype of the business idea.

2. Here are the guidelines of business pitching idea presentation.

 This is a group project. Everyone in the group will receive the same marks.
 Duration of the pitch is 10-15 minutes only.
 Be creative. You are encouraged to use an interesting way to pitch your idea.
 Every group member is expected to present and participate during the pitching.
 Make sure you are presenting, not reading.

B) Simple Business Plan (20%)

After pitching the business ideas, it is the time for each group to prepare a business
proposal based on the ideas chosen. Students are required to prepare a business
plan. The detailed guidelines of the business plan are as below:

TITLE PAGE

The title page must contain the following:

o NAME OF UNIVERSITY
o NAME OF PROPOSED BUSINESS
o NAME OF EACH TEAM MEMBER
o NAME OF LECTURER
o DATE OF SUBMISSION

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Self-explanatory.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Executive Summary is a synopsis of the business plan. It should give the reader
an idea of what is contained in the business plan. The Executive Summary should
emphasize the key points of the plan and get the reader excited about the prospects
of the business succeeding. It should be one to two pages long and should be written
after the entire business plan is completed.

DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED BUSINESS

This section should provide a brief description of the proposed company. The section
should answer the following questions:

 What is the basic activity of the business? Is the company focusing on


manufacturing, retail, or service?
 What products or services will be provided by the proposed business?
 Where will your business be located?
 Who will be your main customers? Later parts of the business plan will provide
details on many of these issues so this section should provide only an overview.

INDUSTRY ANALYSIS

In developing this section of the business plan, you need to briefly describe industry of
your proposed business will operate.

LOGO, MISSION STATEMENT AND BUSINESS OBJECTIVES

This section should design a logo, state the vision, mission statement and objectives
for the proposed business.

MANAGEMENT PLAN

Management makes key decisions such as form of business ownership, and the
organizational structure. This section of the business plan should outline these
decisions as well as provide information about the qualifications of the key executives.

Form of Business Identify form of business ownership chosen by your


company along with the rationale for your choice. (Partnership / Corporation).
Give reason why you choose that form of business ownership (Chapter 3)

Organizational Structure Describe the relationships among individuals within


your business organization, listing the major responsibilities of each member of
your management team. Present these relationships graphically by including
your business organization chart (either in the body of the document or as an
appendix). Student also need to identify management level after drawing
organizational structure. (Chapter 5)

Qualifications of Management Team Note: In describing management


qualifications, pretend that all team members graduated from UiTM five to ten
years ago.) Provide information about the qualifications of the members of your
management team (education, experience, expertise, etc.). (Chapter 7)

Benefit and Compensation: Your business also have to mention aboutbenefit


and compensation to be offer to your employees. (Chapter 7)

OPERATIONAL PLAN

Explain the transformation process of your proposed business. Identify the Inputs,
Process and Ouput of your business. (Chapter 6)

MARKETING PLAN

This section of the business plan should focus on your target market, customer
needs and product characteristics, pricing, distribution, and promotion. Each of these
is briefly described below:

Target Market Describe your market segmentation. (Chapter 8)

Product Characteristics Identify the characteristics of your products, branding


and packaging. (Chapter 8)

Pricing State the proposed price for each product. Identify your pricing
strategy.(Chapter 8)

Distribution. Describe marketing intermediaries and distribution channel


suitable for your business. Will your products be sold to customers directly, or
through retail outlets? (Chapter 8)

Promotion Identify a promotion strategy for your business. What types of


promotion mix will be used? What types of social media platform that will be
used. Describe all the strategy and explain how to apply in your business
organization (Chapter 8 & 9))

FINANCIAL PLAN

This section of the business plan will provide overall budget for business operation.
Show you projected income statement and balance sheet (Chapter 10)

APPENDICES

You may want to provide some information to the reader by putting it in an appendix
rather than including it in the body of the document. For example, a team could provide
a scale drawing of a floor plan, financial plans and/or organization charts as
appendices.

REFERENCES

This section should list any references used in writing your business plan.

LENGTH

The business plan should not be more than 20 pages with single spaced, not
including the Title page and Table of Contents.
