Chapter 1|| introduction to computer network||extra q&a's

1. Which type of network (out of LAN, PAN and MAN) is formed, when you connect two
mobiles using bluetooth to transfer a picture file?
Ans: When two mobiles are connected using bluetooth to transfer a picture file, a PAN
(Personal Area Network) is created.

2. What is the difference between HTTP and FTP?

Ans: FTP is a protocol used to upload files from a workstation to an FTP server or download
files from an FTP server to a workstation.
HTTP is a protocol used to transfer files from a web server onto a browser in order to view a
web page that is on the Internet.

3. In networking, what is WAN?

Ans: The network which connects the different countries' networks is known as WAN. It can
be a group of LANs. The largest existing WAN is the Internet.

4. Name any two components required for networking.

Ans: Switch/Hub and Repeaters.

5. What is a hub?
Ans: A hub is hardware device used to connect several computers together.

6. What is protocol? Which protocol is used to copy a file from/to a remote server?
Ans: Protocol is a set of rules that two or more computers must follow to communicate on
network.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is used to copy a file from/to a remotely located server.

7. Which protocol is used to search information from internet using an internet browser?
Ans: WWW (World Wide Web) is used for searching information from Internet using Internet
browser.

8. What is the advantage of using SWITCH over HUB?

Ans: Switch provides a dedicated line at full bandwidth between two devices but hub doesn't
provide a dedicated line. Hub share the bandwidth.

9. Write the full forms of the following TCP, POP, SMTP, HTTPS, URL, ARP, MAC, PAN, NIC,
OUI, DHCP, SSID
Ans: TCP - Transmission Control Protocol
POP - Post Office Protocol
SMTP - Simple Mail Transfer Protocol
HTTPS - Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure
URL - Uniform Resource Locator
ARP - Address Resolution Protocol
MAC - Media Access Control
PAN - Personal Area Network
NIC - Network Interface Card
OUI - Organizational Unique Identifier
DHCP - Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
SSID - Service Set Identifier

10. Define Networking.

Ans: A computer networking is the practice for exchanging information between two or more
computer devices together for the purpose of sharing data.

11. Name the basic networking commands?

Ans: ping , ipconfig , hostname, arp.

12. What is an IP address?

Ans: An IP address is an numerical label that is assigned to network devices to identify them
uniquely.

13. What is Router?

Ans: A Router is a network device which are used to interconnect two or more
heterogeneous computer networks.

14. Write the function of POP and SMTP protocol.

Ans: POP is designed for receiving incoming emails whereas SMTP is designed for sending
outgoing emails.

15. Write the difference between HTTP and HTTPS.

Ans: Ans:
HTTP~
1) HTTP stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol
2) There is no encryption and decryption
3) HTTP URLs begin with http://

HTTPS~
1) HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure
2) There is encryption and decryption.
3) HTTPS URLs begin with https://

15. Write the difference between LAN and WAN.
Ans: LAN~
•LAN is a network that usually connects a small group of computers in a given geographical
area.
•Very easy to design and maintain.
•The congestion in the network is very low.
•LAN speed is quiet high.

WAN~
•It has the capacity to connect various countries together.
•Very difficult to design and maintain.
•It exhibits a higher congestion in the network.
•WAN speed is lower than that of LAN.

16. Write the difference between LAN and MAN.
Ans: read book, sweetie.

17. What is a MAC Address?

Ans: MAC address is a unique identifier that is assigned to a NIC (Network Interface
Controller/ Card). It consists of a 48 bit or 64-bit address, which is associated with the
network adapter. MAC address can be in hexadecimal format. The full form of MAC address
is Media Access Control address.

18. What is a Switch?

Ans: A Switch is a networking device. It connects multiple devices together on a single
network and routes the information.

19. What is RJ−45 ?

Ans: RJ45 is a standard type of connector for network cables and networks. It is an 8-pin
connector usually used with Ethernet cables.

20. Explain different types of network.

Ans: PAN (Personal Area Network) is a computer network formed around a person. It
generally consists of a computer, mobile, or personal digital assistant.

A Local Area Network (LAN) is a group of computer and peripheral devices which are
connected in a limited area such as school, laboratory, home, and office building. It is a
widely useful network for sharing resources like files, printers, games, and other application.

A Metropolitan Area Network or MAN is consisting of a computer network across an entire

city, college campus, or a small region. This type of network is large than a LAN.

Wide area network (WAN) are the networks spread over large distances, across countries or
even continents.it can even include a group of LANs connected together.

21. What is an access point used for?

Ans: An access point is a device that creates a wireless local area network, or WLAN,
usually in an office or large building.

22. What is the main difference between Hub and switch.

Ans: Hub is a networking devices which is used to transmit the signal to each port (excep
one port) to respond from which the signal was received.

Switch is a network device which is used to enable the connection establishment ar

connection termination on the basis of need.
