HOW TO CONNECT TO THE SERVER USING REAL VNC VIEWER

You should have already received your VPN login credentials. If not, please contact our
Technical support team at [email protected]
Step 1: Download the VNC Viewer by clicking on the below mentioned link:
https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/download/viewer/

While downloading the VNC Viewer please select the installer as per your
Operating System as mentioned in the below image:

Install the downloaded on your machine.

Step 2: Make sure that you’re connected to the SOPHOS CONNECT (VPN)
before trying to login into the server via VNC Viewer.

Step 3: Open VNC Viewer application in your machine.


Please enter the Server IP address in the VNC Viewer as mentioned below:

The server IP address to enter on VNC Viewer 172.16.17.7:5999

After entering IP address hit enter.

Step 4: After step 3 you can see a similar pop-up window shown below, just
click on continue and proceed further.

Step 5: After step 4 you can see a similar pop-up window as shown below,
please enter your server username and server password and then click on ok,
and proceed further.

NOTE: Server username is case-sensitive please take care of upper-case and


lower-case letters.

Step 6: Once after step 5 you will be logged into the server. There will be an
introduction pop-up window of Red hat Linux and VNC Viewer window.

 Please close the VNC connect pop-up window displayed on the screen.

 Please click on the NEXT option for 3 time’s and then click on SKIP
which is at upper right corner of the pop-up window.

 Then there will be another pop-up window and click on start using Linux
at the center of the Pop-window.

 Then you are ready to use your Linux terminal.

Step 7: To adjust you Linux Desktop resolution on VNC Viewer please follow
the below steps:
 Right Click on the display, you will get few option select the Display
settings.

 There you can find the option to adjust the resolution. For best resthe
olution please search for the value 1280*800 (16:10) and set it.

 Click on Apply and then there will be a pop-up window, click on keep
changes. And proceed further and start using your tools.

Step 8: To open the terminal please click on Activities then select terminal.

NOTE: If the server login window is left ideal for 20 mins the VNC
Viewer will be terminated automatically and your project files or work will
not be saved, so please save your projects or work before you switch to any
another work.

Enhance your VPN speed with these steps:

1. Run simulations/synthesis only on command mode


2. Use GUI only for post-simulation debugging – Check with the technical support team if you
are not sure
3. Avoid running the video streaming applications like YouTube /
4. Netflix/Prime Video while working on the VPN access – This reduces your internet bandwidth
and reduces the speed of VPN access
5. Also, check your internet bandwidth and the number of parallel active connections. More
parallel active internet connections on low bandwidth internet will slow down the VPN access.
6. Broadband/FiberNet internet connection of a minimum of 40 MBPS is highly recommended
7. If possible, connect your machine to the router through a LAN cable

8. Create strong passwords and change your passwords every 90 days
9. Never click on a link from an untrusted source.
10. Use antivirus software, and update it on a regular basis to recognize the latest threats.
11. Perform regular backups of important data.
12. Never give out your password to anyone, whether you know them or not.
13. Never write down your password. Especially on a Post-It note stuck to your computer!
14. Do not leave your laptop unattended, even for a few minutes.
15. Do not install P2P file-sharing programs which can illegally download copyrighted material.
