A revised version of pipe lines that improved the performance and usability of the application
considerably was introduced with AVEVA VPE P&ID 7.2 12.2.SP1 For projects developed
using previous versions of AVEVA P&ID, an upgrade of the pipes and symbols on the project
drawings is required before the drawings can be used in AVEVA VPE P&ID 7.2 12.2SP1,
AVEVA P&ID12.0, 12.1, 12.1.SP1, 12.1.SP2, 12.1.SP3,12.2 ,12.2.SP1 and 12.2.SP2
It is mandatory to verify that all the pipes are valid in 7.2, 12.2.SP2 (or previous to 7.2
versions) before executing the upgrade process. This validation process can be executed by
using the command “net validate all”.
It is also mandatory to Synchronise each of the drawings to be upgraded, using the Legacy
version (version of the original files and in the legacy version machine); this process must be
successful and the Output files generated must be kept in the Project Area (e.g.
…Vantage\...)
Then the all project files must be copied in the 12.1 or 12.2.SP1 or 12.2.SP2 machine where
the upgrade process will be continued. Once the files are copied in the 12.2.SP2 machine,
the project must be upgraded using the Project Wizard as usual; this process does not
upgrade the pipes and the symbols but it upgrades the project from legacy versions to
12.2.SP2
1. Once the symbol library has been upgraded, the existing symbols and pipes on the
project drawings can be upgraded from the revised symbol library. This is done using the
AVEVA P&ID Upgrade Utility.
Notes: If upgrading symbols from a legacy project, the drawings must first be
synchronised (see Synchronising Data with a VPE Workbench Database).
The output files generate by the synchronisation process must be available in the
AVEVA Data Path directory.
The INST.VAL, EQUIP.VAL and PID.SYM must be available in the Validation directory.
It is recommended that the upgraded symbols are tested in an empty drawing before
proceeding to edit real project drawings.
Select AVEVA > Engineer > P&ID 12.2.SP2 > AVEVA P&ID Upgrade Utility > AVEVA
P&ID Project Upgrade from the Programs menu.
The AVEVA Legacy Project Upgrade dialog is then displayed
2. In the Select Input Folder field, enter the folder in which the drawings to be upgraded are
located, or press the Browse button and browse for the location. The full location and file
name of each AVEVA P&ID drawing in the selected input folder is the listed in the dialog.
3. In the Select Output Folder field, enter the folder in which the upgraded drawings are to
be placed, or press the Browse button and browse for the location.
4. In the Select Output Folder field, enter the folder in which the upgraded drawings are to
be placed, or press the Browse button and browse for the location.
5. The utility may optionally be used to export data from drawings to XML files in ISO 15928
format. This data can subsequently be imported into AVEVA PDMS using Schematic
Model Manager. If this is required, check the ISO 15926 checkbox.
8. If all the P&ID drawings found in the input folder are to be upgraded (and optionally have
data exported from), select the Select All checkbox. If only certain drawings are to be
upgraded and exported from, check or uncheck the Select File checkboxes for the
individual drawings as required.
9. Select the Process button. The upgrade operation then takes place.
10. When a drawing has been processed successfully, a green tick is displayed in its
Progress field. A red cross is displayed if the drawing is processed with errors.
12. Once a drawing has been processed, details of errors and warnings can be viewed by
selecting its View Log File button.
Previous version of AVEVA P&ID did not have a way of controlling using project settings the
line scale factor applicable to pipes , In the current version of AVEVA P&ID it is possible to
do it using pipe style configuration grid available at the list of values section in the project
administrator to control for each pipe style characteristics the line type scale factor value set
against them, This newly created setting will apply to all pipes drawn at the drawing editor.
Linetypescale property adding in Project Administrator-> ListofValues-PipeStyles->
LineTypeScale and Project Administrator-> SignalStyles-> LineTypeScalenew row. While
creating the new line in P&ID application using draw the line or signal line LineTypeScale
value taking from ProjectAdministrator..
DEXPI import/export
The DEXPI (Data Exchange Between Product Industries) import and export functionality of
Proteus Schema 4.0.1 is used to transfer symbols and drawings to and from AVEVA P&ID..
Data Centric
User when issues AVVNEW command to create a new drawing in AVEVA P&ID, below
dialog would be shown on screen
Drawing number is a mandatory field. User has to provide the drawing number for the
new drawing to be created. Whereas the Sheet number is optional.
Note: When “Use Drawing registry” option in Project Administrator -> Drawing -> Setting
is ON, Drawing number option displays the grid containing the un-assigned drawings
available in P&ID Reports. On selecting a value from drop-down, Drawing number and
Sheet number gets populated. Sheet number would be read only and disabled in this
case.
• CAD File Name and CAD File Path
User would be able to enter CAD file name to save the new drawing on disc. The new
drawing would be saved at the path specified in CAD File Path. Drawing path specified
Note: When user selects the option “Match CAD filename To Drawing and Sheet
Number”, CAD file name would be auto populated as Drawing number appended with
Sheet number. CAD file name would be read only and disabled.
• Delete
User can delete existing drawing template(.DWT) from the database. On clicking delete
button confirmation message dialog would be displayed as below for deleting the
template.
If user clicks on “Yes”, selected drawing template will be deleted from the database.
• Import
User can import existing drawing templates (.DWT) from the file system. On clicking this
button file selection dialog would be displayed to select drawing templates.
• Create
When user clicks on Open button, new drawing would be created using the selected
template.
The Drawing number, Sheet number and Project number would be placed on the
drawing based on the settings in Project Administrator -> Drawing -> Labels for these
labels.
Valve Tag auto-naming will allow user to create multiple valve tag formats. User can place
these multiple tags for a valve on the drawing.
A new option available at the right click content menu has been added inside the AVEVA
P&ID block editor to edit symbol attributes directly, compared to previous versions of AVEVA
P&ID this option saves the additional step of editing the same attributes for the modified
symbol using symbol catalogue grid available at the project administrator.
The connection of signal lines in different drawings can be done through Signal Line sheet
Connectors. The sheet Connector properties will have the list of signal lines available in the
project that user can connect.Same kind of Signal Lines can only be connected to their
respective type.
As drafting requirments will need a leader line between the SPP tag and the SPP item on the
line.
Master copies of drawings and symbols are now saved centrally at the project database, this
data centric feature eliminates the need of displaying file extension at the Engineering
explorer and Symbol explorer for each of the drawings and symbols present at all AVEVA
P&ID project databases.
SUPPORT DOCUMENTATION

Known issues using windows server machine to host AVEVA P&ID project data
When the network file share for the project files is a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server,
please take into account that Windows Server 2008 uses only SMB v2 (Server Message
Block protocol) by default for connecting to network shares.
Windows XP clients do not support SMB v2 and use SMB v1 instead. This causes delays
when launching the AVEVA P&ID application. Registry changes (as per Microsoft Forums)
are required to force the server to use SMB v1.
http://www.petri.co.il/how-to-disable-smb-2-on-windows-vista-or-server-2008.htm
