PREPOSITIONS

What are Prepositions?

Prepositions are small words that show the connection between other words in
a sentence. They tell us about:
• Place: Where something is (on, in, under).
o Example: The book is on the table.
• Time: When something happens (at, on, in).
o Example: We will meet at 5 o’clock.
• Direction: Where something is going (to, into, onto).
o Example: She is going to the park.

Types of Prepositions
1. Prepositions of Place (Where?)
• Examples: in, on, under, behind, between
• Sentences:

o She is sitting between two friends.

2. Prepositions of Time (When?)

• Examples: at, on, in

Simple Rules
1. A preposition is always followed by a noun or pronoun.
o Correct: I am good at math.
o Incorrect: I am good at.
2. Some prepositions are tricky and need to be learned with the word they
go with.
