Age Word Problem

1. Alice is twice as old as Bob. Five years ago, Alice was three times as old as Bob.
How old are Alice and Bob now?
Alice Bob EQUATION
Present A B A=2B
Past A-5 B-5 A−5=3(B−5)

Solving for B:
2B−5=3(B−5)
2B−5=3B−15
−5+15=B
B=10
So, Bob is 10 years old, and Alice is:
A=2B
A=2×10
A = 20
Past
Alice: 15
Bob: 5
Present
Alice:20
Bob: 10
Alice is 20 years old, and Bob is 10 years old.

1 for Mixture Problem

A chemist has one solution that is 40% acid and another that is 25% acid. How
many liters of each solution should she mix to obtain 100 liters of a solution that
is 30% acid?

Let xx be the amount of 40% acid solution and y be the amount of 25% acid
solution.

We have two equations:

x+y=100

0.4x+0.25y=0.3 *100

From the first equation:

y = 100 - x

Substitute y in the second equation:

0.4x + 0.25(100 - x) = 30
0.4x + 25 - 0.25x = 30
0.15x = 5
x = 5/0.15
x=33.3

Thus, y=100−33.3
y=66.6

So, you need approximately 33.33 liters of the 40% solution and 66.67 liters of the
25% solution.

1 for Distance, Rate and Time Problem

Problem:
Emma drives from City X to City Y at a speed of 80 km/h. On her way back from
City Y to City X, she drives at a speed of 60 km/h due to traffic. If the total round
trip takes 5 hours, what is the distance between City X and City Y?

1. Define Variable:
- Let ( d) be the distance between City X and City Y.

2. Set Up Time Equations:

- The time taken to travel from City X to City Y at 80 km/h is:

- The time taken to travel from City Y to City X at 60 km/h is:

3. Set Up Total Time Equation:

- The total travel time is the sum of the two times:
4. Find a Common Denominator and Solve for ( d ):
- The common denominator for 80 and 60 is 240:

- Combine the fractions:

- Multiply both sides by 240 to clear the fraction:

7d = 1200
- Solve for ( d ):

d=

Conclusion:
The distance between City X and City Y is approximately 171.43 km.

After answering your own formulated problems. The following questions should
be answered.
1. How did you formulate your own problem from the 3 topics mentioned?
Answer: By watching the example videos and analyze how did they answer it,
then I tried my best to make my own.
2. How did you determine that your own constructed problem is aligned in the 3
topics mentioned?
Answer: I determine that my own constructed problem is aligned in the 3 topics
mentioned by double checking it and identifying if my own constructed problem
is related to the 3 topics
3. What do you think of the level of difficulty you encountered upon constructing
the problem? Answer: In my own experience on how did I make my problem is so
hard because I need to double check if it is related to the topics.
4. How did you arrive at your answers.
Answer: By solving it and try hard to get the correct answers.
