Approximately ,1 in 4 children in the Middle East and North Africa is either out of school or at risk of
dropping out, the United Nations said in a report highlighting the disruptive impact of war on a region
where education had been improving for years. UNICEF and UNESCO said in a study on education in 20
countries across the Middle East and North Africa including Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Yemen …that million
Syrians and Iraqi children are out of school as a result of violence in their countries. “As the violence
expands, millions are at risk of becoming a' lost generation,' with no knowledge needed to be successful
adults,” they said.
Most children from those countries are not getting education; either because they are refugees or as
their schools have been bombed,” said Juliette Touma. Other reasons may be countries‟ inabilities to build
schools, provide transportation and properly train teachers. At the same time, impoverished host
communities have been overwhelmed by the number of refugees, who aren’t paying taxes. Increasingly,
schools have closed their doors to Syrian children.
Unless we tackle this problem, through prioritizing investment in education, we might come to “
a point where we have lost a generation not just in Syria and Iraq but all over the region,” Touma said.
However, the outlook is not hopeless. The flow of refugees and destruction of schools will not come to a
stop until the region’s wars do, but “numerous experiences show that even in very challenging
environments, flexible and innovative measures can keep education going,” the U.N. report said

I am writing to you this letter to complain about a problem I have had with a cell phone I purchased

Yesterday, I bought a cell phone (iPhone a1332) made by your company from one of your retailers. I
know it is one of your best selling products and that is exactly what prompted me to buy it. Unfortunately, it
looks like the unit I purchased is defective. The call quality is low: I can hardly understand anything. I am

This is not the first time I have purchased phones built by your company, but this is the first time I have
experienced a problem. I am hoping that you will take measures necessary to replace this fault unit with a

Expecting a prompt response,
Sincerely yours, Peter Parke

7 years in jail in addition to 2 million dinars of fine were issued by the court of Djelfa against 18
speculators. The story dates back to October 25th, where the Goods Surveillance Committee raided a lot of
stores in the city to watch the implementation of the decisions taken by the ministry of commerce against
those who are practicing speculation in selling basic commodities. The accused have been caught selling
their products (oil and milk) to consumers to double their profit. ‘That should not happen at the expense of
consumers’, said the president of the court to the local audience and daily papers which gave a special cover
to the event. He adds that a fierce struggle will be carried out against speculators and mafia groups.
On the sidelines of the prosecution, the spokesman for the Goods Surveillance Committee said:
‘Though the penalties seem much harsher, we put the interest of the citizen above all.’ Any of the hearing
welcomed the tougher regulations followed by governmental agencies.

The British government is looking to China to try to improve the standard of maths in British
schools. Students in the Chinese city of Shanghai have the highest international test results
according to a global testing agency. There is a huge difference in numeracy levels between the UK
and China. Britain's Times newspaper reports that: "The children of cleaners in Shanghai outperform
those of UK doctors and lawyers in global maths tests." To attempt to rectify this situation, the UK
government will hire 60 of Shanghai's best maths teachers. It is part of a new initiative called the
National Numeracy Challenge, which aims at improving the mathematics ability of one million British
students.
The UK government said it was shocked that Britain lagged far behind many countries in maths.
It warned that poor numeracy is costing the country's economy up to $30 billion a year. Britain's
education minister Elizabeth Truss, who recently returned from a fact-finding mission in China,
stated: "We have some brilliant maths teachers in this country but what I saw in Shanghai and other
Chinese cities has only strengthened my belief that we can learn from them." She added: "They have
a can-do attitude to maths and I want us to match that, and their performance." She said: "Good
maths qualifications have the greatest earnings potential and provide the strongest protection
against unemployment.

Schoolchildren around the world are being exposed on a daily basis to cigarette advertising and
promotions. Indeed, tobacco industry needs to recruit the young to maintain its vast profits; it uses many
tactics to attract the next generation of smokers.
A major investigation across four continents has found cigarettes on sale close to school gates and
advertising which normalises smoking. In Peru, Guardian correspondents saw single sticks apparently for
sale in corner shops near schools in flavours attractive to children, such as mint, lemon, berry, grape,
cinnamon or combinations. In Indonesia, they saw banner ads above stalls near a primary school.
Big tobacco denies promoting its products to children; Philip Morris International (PMI) and British
American Tobacco (BAT) said they have strict rules against targeting children. But experts stress the
harm. The continuing research found alarming evidence of widespread promotional activities that could
influence children to start to smoke and potentially develop a habit that could kill them.
Researchers found that some of the few rules put in place to protect children had been breached. In a
study at Kiev, Ukraine, researchers showed a photograph representing how health warnings had been
obscured with price stickers.

On December 17th, 2018; the International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Center announced
Farout’s discovery. Astronomers have discovered a distant body that is more than 100 times farther from
the Sun than Earth is (about 11.15 billion miles). Its provisional designation is “2018 VG18”, but they’ve
nicknamed the planet “Far-out.”
Farout is the most distant body ever observed in our Solar System. This newly-discovered object
is the result of astronomers’ search for the elusive “Planet X” or “Planet 9,” a ninth major planet thought
to exist at the furthest reaches of our Solar System. Farout was discovered with the Magellan telescope in
Chile, and with the Japanese Subaru 8-meter telescope in Hawaii. The Subaru was the first to spot it, on
the night of November 10th, 2018. Later, in early December, the Magellan telescope spotted “2018
VG18” for the second time.
Observations confirmed that the planet is roughly spherical and is about 500km in diameter. The
new planet has a pinkish hue, which is a colour associated with ice-rich objects. Because “2018 VG18” is
so distant, it orbits very slowly, likely taking more than 1,000 years to make one trip around the Sun and
it would take about 31 years for a spacecraft to reach Farout.
It could take a few years to fully understand Farout's orbit due to its distance and slow movement.
Yet; with better telescopes, computers and research methods, astronomers may find more and more
bodies in the distant reaches of our system.

Charity is one of the many significant things that the Quran and Sunnah teach us. It is a means of
demonstrating compassion towards the deserving ones. It serves as a reminder to attempt to meet the
needs of others for the greater good of the community. If a Muslim feels the suffering of his or her fellow
human being and desires the same happiness and comfort for others that they desire for themselves, it is a
natural response for them to donate to charity in order to alleviate the suffering.
One billion Muslims around the world celebrate Ramadan as one of the most sacred months in a
calendar year. They unite in acts of kindness and charity during Ramadan because fasting and giving to the
poor are two of the five pillars of Islam’s pillars and devotion. Muslims often pay their Zakat and donate
with more zeal during the holy month of Ramadan because of the endless rewards they receive from Allah
and it could possibly be the best time to start a charitable tradition in the community. The Prophet (SAW)
said, ‘The best act of charity is carried out in the month of Ramadan.’
Ramadan’s charity, especially Zakat, is seen as a means of purifying one’s wealth in Islam. Giving to
those in need and supporting charitable causes is believed to have a purifying effect on one’s wealth and
financial resources. This is because charity is seen as a way of sharing one’s blessings and resources with
others, and it is believed that by giving to others, one is able to purify one’s own wealth. “Those who spend
in charity will be richly rewarded” (Quran 57:10). Giving to charity does not diminish one’s wealth; rather, it
increases and cleanses along with heavy rewards.

Part one: (15pts)
Read the text carefully then answer the questions below:
The recovery and reuse of materials from spent products called recycling is
an ancient practice with many modern applications. In recent years recycling
has become a major part of environmental policy, largely owing to the
increased costs of solid- and hazardous-waste disposal, the scarcity of natural
resources, and the growing concern over polluted land, water, and air.
There are two types of recycling operations: internal and external. In
internal recycling, an industry reclaims materials that are a waste product of a
manufacturing process and reuses them within the same process. External
recycling is the reclaiming of materials from a product that has been worn out
or rendered obsolete. An example of external recycling is the collection of old
newspapers and magazines for the manufacture of newsprint or other paper
products.
Successful recycling programs depend on several factors. There must be a
general awareness of the problems caused by solid-waste disposal and an
effective, inexpensive method for separating and collecting the recyclable
materials. It also must be economically feasible for industries to use and
market recycled materials.
