For △ABC and △AED, since

AB : AE = 4 : 2 = 2 :1 ,
AC : AD = 6 : 3 = 2 :1 ,
we have
AB : AE = AC : AD (*).
(3) Also, we have
∠BAC = ∠EAD (**).
From (*) and (**), the ratio of the lengths of two sides and the included angle are equal to their
corresponding parts. Therefore,
△ABC  △AED.

Letting f = x , we have d = x − 2 , e = x − 1 , g = x + 1 and h = x + 2 . So we get

(x − 2) 2 + (x − 1)2 + x 2 = (x + 1)2 + (x + 2)2

x 2 − 4x + 4 + x 2 − 2x + 1 + x 2 = x 2 + 2x + 1 + x 2 + 4x + 4
x 2 − 12x = 0
(2)
x (x − 12) = 0
x = 0, 12.

Since the four numbers are positive numbers, d = 10, e = 11, f = 12, g = 13, h = 14 .

(Answer) d = 10, e = 11, f = 12, g = 13, h = 14

The perimeter of the rectangle is 20 cm and the length is x cm. So the width of the rectangle is
(10 − x ) cm. Hence
S = x (10 − x )
= −x 2 + 10x
= −{(x − 5) 2 − 25}
(7)
= −(x − 5) 2 + 25.
So, S has the maximum value at x = 5 . Then the width is also
10 − x = 10 − 5 = 5 (cm).
Therefore the figure is a square.
