LESSON 11:

LOGARITHMIC
EXPRESSION
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a. define logarithm,

b. express logarithmic expressions, and

c. changing exponential expression to logarithmic

expression and vice versa.

• The logarithm is the inverse function to
exponentiation.

• Logarithm is the exponent or power to which a

base must be raised to yield a given number

• It is denoted by “log”

• For example, 𝟐𝟑 = 𝟖; therefore, 3 is the logarithm

of 8 to base 2, or 𝟑 = 𝒍𝒐𝒈𝟐 𝟖
𝒂 𝒃 =𝒄
𝐥𝐨𝐠 𝐚 𝐜 = 𝐛

Two Special Types of Logarithm

• COMMON LOGARITHM → It is a logarithm whose base is 10. Ex: 𝟏𝟎𝟐 = 𝟏𝟎𝟎

• NATURAL LOGARITHM → It is a logarithm whose base is 𝒆. Ex: 𝒆𝒙 = 𝒚
