1. Typing
What is Typing?
Typing is the skill of entering text into a computer using a keyboard.
Use all your fingers: Try to use all your fingers to type, not just two or three.
Look at the screen: Don’t look at the keyboard while typing; focus on the screen.
Practice regularly: The more you practice, the faster and better you'll get at typing!
Left hand: A, S, D, F
Right hand: J, K, L, ;
Right hand: Use your right pinky for the ";" key, and move your fingers across to "L," "K," and
"J."
Typing Practice
Online typing games and apps like TypingClub or BBC Dance Mat Typing can help you improve
your typing skills.
2. Keyboard
What is a Keyboard?
The keyboard is a device that allows us to enter text and numbers into the computer. It has keys
for letters, numbers, symbols, and functions.
Spacebar: The large key at the bottom of the keyboard that adds a space between words.
Arrow Keys: Used to move the cursor up, down, left, or right.
Click Microsoft Office and then select Microsoft Office Word 2007.
Title Bar
Located at the top of the screen. It shows the name of your document.
Quick Access Toolbar
A small toolbar at the top left that gives you quick access to tools like Save, Undo, and Redo.
Ribbon
The Ribbon is the main menu area at the top of the window. It has several tabs, each with tools for
different tasks.
Home: This tab has tools for font size, style, bold, italic, underline, and more.
Insert: You can add pictures, shapes, tables, and other objects.
Page Layout: Adjust the layout of your page, such as margins and orientation.
View: Changes how you view your document (print layout, web layout, etc.).
Document Area
This is the main area where you type your text.
Status Bar
Located at the bottom of the window, the status bar shows you the page number, word count,
and zoom level.
Font Style: Change the style of the text (e.g., Times New Roman, Arial).
Alignment Tools
Left Align: Aligns text to the left margin.
Justify: Makes the text spread out evenly across the page.
d. Go to the Insert tab and click on Picture to add a photo or image to your document.
Cut: Removes the selected text or object and places it on the clipboard.
Paste: Inserts the text or object from the clipboard into the document.
These notes should help Standard 2 and 3 students understand the basics of typing, using a keyboard,
and working with Microsoft Word 2007. Make sure to practice using the tools and keep learning as you
