Session: 2024 – 2025 Quiz-2: Solutions Semester: Monsoon

Time : 30 min Subject: Introduction to Electronics Engg.(NECC101) Max. Marks: 20

Write the units wherever applicable. There is no credit without units.

You have to write only the answer. You can do the rough work elsewhere.

1. The terminal voltages of npn transistors are given below. identify the mode of (2)
operation of each transistor.

E B C Mode

0 0.7 0.7 Active

0 0.8 0.1 Saturation

1.3 2 5 Active

0 0 5 Cut-off

2. An npn transistor is operating in the active mode with 𝑉𝐵𝐸 = 690 mV, (4)
𝐼𝐶 = 1.0 mA, and 𝐼𝐸 = 1.02 mA (Take 𝑉𝑇 = 25 mV). Find out

𝐼𝐵 = 20 𝜇A 𝛼 = 0.98

𝛽 = 50 𝐼𝑆 = 1 × 10−15 A

3. Consider an npn transistor whose base-emitter drop is 0.76 V at a collector current (2)
of 5 mA. What current will it conduct at 𝑣𝐵𝐸 = 0.70 V?

Ans: 0.45 mA

4. In a particular BJT, the base current is 10 μA, and the collector current is (2)
800 μA. Find 𝛽 and 𝛼 for this device.

𝛼 = 0.988 𝛽 = 80

5. Find the value of 𝛽 of the transistor in (2)

the given circuit.

𝛽 = 46.5
(2)
6. For the circuit given, assume that the
transistors have very large β. Find the
values of 𝐼𝐸 and 𝑉𝐶 .

𝑽𝑪
𝐼𝐸 = 1.6 mA

𝑉𝐶 = − 4.5 V
𝑰𝑬

7. For the circuits shown, find the emitter, (6)

base, and collector voltages and
currents. Use β = 50 and|𝑉𝐵𝐸 | = 0.8 V
independent of the current level.

𝐼𝐸 = 0.35 mA

𝐼𝐵 = 0.007 mA

𝐼𝐶 = 0.345 mA

𝑉𝐸 = 0.8 V

𝑉𝐵 = 0

𝑉𝐶 = -0.81 V
