(Windows) Release Notes
This document contains a summary of the new features and installation details for Sentinel
SuperProTM version 7.1.

Overview
Sentinel SuperPro protects your applications from unauthorized use across both the stand-
alone and networked environments. The SuperPro software protection is empowered by a pro-
grammable hardware/software key that can encrypt data—providing you with a wide range of
methods for securing multiple applications per key.

New Features in This Release


The section below summarizes the new features for Sentinel SuperPro version 7.1. For complete
information, see the Sentinel SuperPro Developer’s Guide.

Support for Multiple Software Key Types


The SuperPro software keys are available in the following variants in this release:
■ Simple soft
■ Secure soft
■ Evaluation soft
You can sell date-limited software for increasing the product usage/trial rate among the poten-
tial customers easily with evaluation software keys. Secure software key provides you maximum
flexibility software protection. For example, you can update the hard limit of a secure software
key in the field. You can extend the expiration date of a secure software key or disable the expira-
tion control of a secure software key to convert it to a full license.

Note: It is not supported to generate a simple software key without any locking criteria in this release.

New Features in This Release

Support for Software Keys in Network Mode


Sentinel Protection Server and Sentinel License Monitor were updated in this release to support
software keys in network mode.

Note: Sentinel Protection Server 7.6.0 or above is required to support software keys in network mode.

Support for Key Update Receipt


If you want to collect the information about the update packets applied in the field by end users,
please select Request Update Receipt check box while generating the license code.
The receipt information will include:
■ License code ID
■ Additional information about selected commands
■ Status to indicate whether the update was successful or not
This information is stored in the generated locking code. You can ask the end users to send the
locking code again to view this information with the help of License Generator Utility.

Support for License Revocation


SAFE command Clear Cells was introduced in this release to support license revocation in a
SuperPro key. It can be used to overwrite a cell range in the key with value 0 and access code 1.
You can issue a license code containing this command to overwrite the algorithm cell in the key
to revoke a license. In addition, you can use SAFE command Remove Software Key to uninstall a
software key at the end user side for the purpose of license revocation.

Shell Rebranded to CodeCover


Sentinel Shell was re-branded to Sentinel CodeCover with the following enhancements:
■ AES encryption for data file protection
■ Support for protection of memory-mapped files
■ Encryption of resource section
■ Code Morphing
■ 64-bit CodeCover SDK
■ Support for different error message modes

Client Library Enhancements


■ RNBOsproGetKeyInfoEx was enhanced to return the software key type, key start date and
end date.
■ Server port for communication with the Sentinel Protection Server can be configured
now.

Enhancements and Problems Corrected in This Release

Compiler Interfaces Enhancements


■ Support of AutoCAD 2009 and AutoCAD 2010 on both 32-bit platform and 64-bit
platform are provided in this release.

Unsupported Platforms
The following platforms are no longer supported by the Sentinel SuperPro version 7.1.0:
■ Windows 98
■ Windows ME
Sentinel SuperPro version 7.0.0 is the last release that supported Windows 98 and Windows
Me.
Support for Sentinel Protection Server on Windows 98 and Windows ME was removed from
Sentinel Protection Installer 7.6.0. Sentinel Protection Installer 7.5.0 is the last release that
supported Sentinel Protection Server on Windows 98 and Windows ME.

Enhancements and Problems Corrected in This Release


The following enhancements have been introduced in this release:
■ Sentinel License Monitor has been enhanced to show details of sublicenses usage
(WT67459).
■ Sentinel Protection Server is updated to allow or block clients from certain IP addresses
(WT83745).
■ Sentinel Protection Server is updated to set the time period for the server to work. You can
now allow the server to process requests from clients during a set time period. For
example, in between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. only (WT83745).
■ Sentinel Protection Installer is updated to display an icon along a with proper warning
message if the component is not installed correctly (WT83869).
■ Sentinel Protection Installer is updated to hide all console windows that may be displayed
during installation of Sentinel System Driver or Sentinel Protection Server (WT83864).
■ While generating the license code for customers or distributors, all update actions can be
selected now (WT 84067).
■ CodeCover was enhanced to perform lease checking during the runtime of protected
application (WT 84084)
■ Intel Visual Fortran 8.1 interface was included in this release (WT 83935)
The following problems have been fixed in this release:
■ Earlier, Sentinel Protection Server would crash during system startup if LabVIEW and
VMware were installed on the system. This issue has been fixed in this release (Task
58525).
■ The RNBOsproFindFirstUnit function returned an error if more than 20 clients were
trying to obtain licenses from the Sentinel Protection Server simultaneously. Moreover, it
also took many attempts to find a key. Now, concurrent requests from about 70 clients
can be supported by updating the client library and Sentinel Protection Server
(WT84034).

Known Issues

■ Earlier, an error occurred on running the protected executable created by Visual Objects.
This was due to an issue on processing import functions. This issue has been fixed in this
release (WT83984).
■ Customized error messages were not displayed correctly on running the protected
application, if the error message contained certain characters. This issue has been fixed in
this release (WT84021).
■ Earlier, a memory leak was reported on running application that used a software key in
Visual Studio 2008. This issue has been fixed in this release (WT84058).
■ If the user first deselected some features on the Custom Setup screen but later preferred
to run the complete installation by using the Complete setup type, the deselected
features were not installed. This issue has been fixed in this release (Task 64870).
■ Earlier, the application returned different error codes when license code was applied twice
with One time update flag. This issue has been fixed in this release (Task 61785).
■ Earlier, CodeCover protected application used to throw an exception on Vista platform if
the security option for multi-layer level was set to 5. This issue has been fixed in this
release (WT 84044)
■ Earlier, Sentinel License Monitor was not displayed on Firefox if JRE version is 1.6.0_11 or
1.6.0_12. This issue has been fixed in this release (WT 83988)
■ Earlier, Sentinel License Monitor did not display license usage details page sometimes.
This issue has been fixed in this release (WT 83933)
■ Earlier, Sentinel Protection Installer fails to repair the driver installation after Windows
Internet Explorer 8 is installed. This issue has been fixed in this release (WT 84095)
■ Earlier, RNBOsproFindFirstUnit might return the error code
SP_NO_LICENSE_AVAILABLE (70) in driver access mode while SuperPro key is present.
This issue has been fixed in this release (WT 84098)

Known Issues
■ License is not released when only .NET dlls are protected using Sentinel CodeCover.
■ Standard users cannot modify/uninstall Sentinel SuperPro 7.1.0 from the Control Panel
using the Change/Remove option on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista
systems. Only an administrator is allowed to modify/uninstall Sentinel SuperPro 7.1.0
using these options (Task 63619).
■ SuperPro Toolkit does not support JIS X 0212 (supplementary Japanese graphic)
character set. Before using a localized character set, please contact SafeNet to find out
whether it is supported or not (Task 62886).
■ The CodeCover-protected .NET executable may not work properly if the metadata in the
.NET executable is required for running the application. It is because that the metadata is
removed from the .NET executable due to a security reason (WT 83524).

Installation

Installation
This section contains all the details regarding the Sentinel SuperPro 7.1 installation.

System Requirements
Note that the following requirements are necessary:

Upgrade Information for SuperPro 7.0 Developers


Please refer to the What’s New guide for a detailed description on upgrading to SuperPro ver-
sion 7.1.

Installation Instructions
1. Insert the installation CD in the CD drive.

2. You may need to navigate into the CD if the autorun does not work. Double-click
StartHere.exe. The StartHere screen (shown below) appears.

3. Click the Install button to launch the setup program. Follow the on-screen instructions
to complete the Sentinel SuperPro installation.

Note: The installer upgrades the Windows Installer version to 2.0


Sentinel SuperPro installation requires Windows Installer version 2.0 or higher on the target sys-
tem. If a lower version is found, the installer will inform the user and upgrade automatically. If
you are not sure you want to update the Windows Installer, do not run this program.

List of Installed Components


The following components will be installed at: <OS Drive>\Program files\SafeNet Sentinel\Super-
Pro\7.1 on Windows 32-bit platforms (On Windows 64-bit platforms these components are
installed at: <OS Drive>\Program Files(x86)\SafeNet Sentinel\SuperPro\7.1), when you have
installed Sentinel SuperPro using the Complete setup type.

\Configuration File Contains the configuration file for your customers.
Template
\Interfaces Contains client library interfaces for popular compilers, such as Microsoft
Visual C++, Visual Basic, COM, .NET and so on. Refer to the directory for
details.
\MakeKey Sample Contains an example for customizing the make key utility for programming
keys.
\Manuals Contains various documentation items for this release.

Please note that the documentation provided in this directory may not be
accessible from the Toolkit or any other utility. Hence, we suggest you to
access them directly from this location.

\MSVCDev Contains a sample program, header file, and libraries for Microsoft Visual
C++.
\SAFE Sample Contains an example for customizing the SAFE program for field activation.
\Sentinel License Contains the source code (.java and .html files) for modifying Sentinel
Monitor License Monitor.
\Sentinel Protection Contains a ready-to-ship installer for deploying Sentinel System Driver,
Installer Sentinel Security Runtime, and Sentinel Protection Server. This directory
also contains the merge modules and MSI for both components that you
can use for customizing their installation.
\Tools Contains the SuperPro Toolkit and other stand-alone applications (like the
Field Exchange Utility). This location will also contain the DSAFE and USAFE
objects generated for the field activation.
