Basic Understanding:
Literally, “rule of people”: power is vested in the hands of people.
Term is derived from Greek “Demokratia”, demos (people) and kratos (rule).
Introduced in the mid of 5th century BCE.
In democratic system citizens have the authority to make decisions of government
typically through voting free and fair elections.
The etymological origins of the term “Democracy” founds a number of crucial problems that go
far beyond semantic issues. If a democratic government is to be established, at least five
fundamental questions must be answered and two more can be posed if the democracy continues
to exist long.
