Diversity and the Humanities

Diversity has impacted the humanities by providing more context through which people can understand
each other’s experiences, values and expectations. The result of diversity is that the humanities have
spread the presence of diverse concepts to increase the sense of togetherness and compassion.
Diversity has contributed a lot of material that has helped different groups of society holistically
understand each other and developing cultural awareness and acceptance of foreign ideas.

This has resulted in many people interacting on a level unlike ever before, and showing eagerness to live
and work together for the benefit of future generations. Without diverse viewpoints expressed in the
humanities, the world would be a lot more closed up as people would find it difficult to identify shared
values and ideas. Diversity has allowed people to challenge presumptions and expand social behavior
like critical thinking, emotional intelligence and communication skills.

Diverse cultures have had profound contributions to creative expressions found in humanities. Diversity
has resulted in iconic artefacts from different societies being recognized and used to entertain and
inform other people around the world. One example is in modern poetry which has evolved from
traditional rhyme schemes and topics to embrace new topics and ideas which resonate with many
people who enjoy them. Diversity has shown people that there are endless ways to express one’s ideas
and desires in ways that they may not have considered.

In general, I think that the main contribution of diverse cultures to creative expressions is the sheer
volume and variety in ideas and values shared through different media. People are now more aware of
how to creatively express themselves in a way that other people can appreciate even when they do not
agree with the ideas communicated.
