DISCUSSION TIME
A system software is a set of programs that controls, develops, and performs loading and running
application programs. It serves as the interface between hardware and user applications and is designed to
manage work with computer hardware devices connected to the computer like printer, share memory
resources, and coordinate with computer networks even without the need for the interaction of the user.

Types of System Software

It is the most important software because it performs all the basic tasks, manages the memory and processes
of the computer, handles coordination, and controls the peripheral devices.
2. Utility software
It is a program that maintains and ensures the working efficiency of a computer by cleaning up and
organizing the computer’s files and programs.
3. Device driver

other programs.
4. Anti-virus software
It is a computer program that keeps a computer system safe and running by searching, detecting, identifying,
and removing malware (malicious software) and computer viruses.
5. Basic input/output system (BIOS)
It is a software that is essential to computers’ operating system’s functioning. It allows the processor to
interact/communicate and manages the flow of data between the OS and connected computer
components/devices such as printer, disk drive, video adapter, mouse, keyboard, among others.
