Sub Strand: Energy Transformation in swinging bodies
Lesson Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify the forms of energy that a body possess at different points as it swings.
2. Demonstrate energy transformation in a swinging body.
3. Have fun in swinging bodies.
Key Inquiry Questions: Which energy transformation takes place in a swinging body? Where is energy transformation by swinging
bodies applied in daily lives?
Learning Resources: Twenty strings, and twenty stones.
Organisation of Learning: Learning is taking place in the lab.
Introduction: Review of the previous lesson on examples of transformation of energy in the locality. (QA is used)
Lesson Development:
Step 1: In pairs learners carry out activities showing energy transformation in a swinging body. (Learners set up a simple pendulum
and operate the pendulum)
Step 2: In groups of five the learners discuss energy transformation in swinging body.
Self-efficacy- Communication & Collaboration, Critical thinking and problem solving, as learners engage in group activities, Value of
Respect as learners practice patience during discussion, Skill of manipulation and ICT skills as they search in the internet. PCI – Safety as
learners do the various activities at school and at home.
Extended Activities: Learners to observe other swinging objects and identify the energy transformation from the internet by the help
of parents or guardians.( Pendulum Lab (colorado.edu). While at home, the learners tie strong ropes on strong branches and make their
own swings with the help of parents or guardians.
Conclusion: Through oral questions learners make conclusions on energy transformation in swinging object.
