Class Notes: Introduction to PowerPoint

I. What is Microsoft PowerPoint?

 PowerPoint is a presentation software used for creating and delivering visual


presentations.
 It's part of the Microsoft Office suite and widely used in business, education, and more.

II. PowerPoint Presentation Components

 A PowerPoint presentation is composed of slides, which can be thought of as individual


pages.
 Each slide can contain text, images, charts, and other multimedia elements.

III. The PowerPoint Interface

 The PowerPoint interface consists of the Ribbon (containing tabs), Slides Pane (on the
left), and Slide View (in the center).

IV. Creating a New Presentation

 To start a new presentation, go to the File tab, select New, and choose a blank
presentation.
 You can also choose from various built-in templates.

V. Slide Layout

 Slides can have different layouts (Title Slide, Content Slide, etc.) that determine how
content is arranged.

VI. Entering Text

 To add text, click on a text box (or title) and start typing.
 Use the formatting options in the Home tab to style text.

VII. Adding Images

 Insert images by going to the Insert tab and selecting Pictures. Choose an image from
your computer.
VIII. Slide Transitions

 Slide transitions control how each slide appears and exits during the presentation.
 You can set slide transitions from the Transitions tab.

IX. Adding Animations

 Animations are effects applied to individual objects (text, images) on a slide.


 You can add animations from the Animations tab.

X. Slide Sorter View

 Slide Sorter View allows you to rearrange the order of slides and view an overview of
your presentation.
 Access it from the View tab.

XI. Slide Show Mode

 To view your presentation, use Slide Show mode (F5 or from the Slide Show tab).
 Navigate through slides using arrow keys or mouse clicks.

XII. Saving and Exporting

 Save your presentation with Ctrl+S or File > Save.


 To export, go to File > Export and choose a format (e.g., PDF).

XIII. Tips and Shortcuts

 Use Ctrl+C for copy, Ctrl+X for cut, and Ctrl+V for paste.
 Undo with Ctrl+Z and redo with Ctrl+Y.
 Apply common formatting with the Home tab (bold, italic, alignment).

XIV. Homework

 Practice creating a simple presentation with a few slides, text, and images.
 Experiment with slide transitions and animations.
