1 Research design

Learning outcome will be analyze for organic functional groups amongs N.C.E. 1 chemistry student,
federal college of education {technical} Gombe. Student would be exposed to the following; Hydrocarbons,
functional groups concept and structural formulars of the most common functional groups{alcohols, carbonyls,
esters, amines and amides}respectively.

3.2 Area of study

The study area is federal college of education {technical} Gombe, Gombe state Nigeria.

3.3 population of the study

The population of this study is comprises 90 N.C.E. 1 chemistry students for both the experimental ad control
group. The first group consisting of 45 N.C.E. 1 chemistry students{25 females and 20 males}, they would be taught
through a digital presentation using a projector, chemdraw soft ware and visual pictures of the functional groups.
This group was the experimental group.

The second group consisting of 45 N.C.E. 1 chemistry students{20 females and 25 males}, they will be taught using
a traditional methods{Board and markers}. This group was the control group.

3.4 sample and sampling technique

This research employ random sampling, the sampling consist of Ninety {90} students, 45 males and 45 females,
from school of science department of chemistry, federal college of education {technical} Gombe, were
randomely selected and fourty five{45} students each were assigned by randomization into control and
experimental group respectively. All individual in the population got the same chance to be selected to
become the member of sample.

3.5 instrument for data collection

The instrument to be used in collection of data was a designed set of questions{evaluation items} on
functional groups to be responded by the students for both the experimental and control groups. The
response of students evaluation instrument will be graded.

3.6 validity of instrument

A set of instructions was designed and validated by an expert from chemistry department, federal
university kashere Gombe state.

3.7 method of data collection

The response was gathered graded and represent in a table for further analysis and interpretation.
