CHAPTER I
The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

The Electrical Installation and Maintenance strand is a focused

area of education that deals with the design, installation, and upkeep of

electrical systems. It covers essential topics such as electrical safety,

circuit design, troubleshooting, and adherence to regulations. Through

this training, individuals gain the expertise needed to ensure the safe

and effective operation of electrical systems in homes, businesses, and

industrial environments, making it a vital component of contemporary

infrastructure and technology.

Evaluating electrical installation and maintenance students

should focus on their theoretical knowledge, practical skills, problem-

solving abilities, safety practices, and communication skills. The study

will also investigate the variables that affect student success, including

teaching strategies, resource availability, and opportunities for practical

training. Finding gaps between industry expectations and present

educational outcomes is a critical component of this research. In doing

so, the study hopes to offer suggestions for improving the training and

curriculum procedures.

The study will also investigate the variables that affect student

success, including teaching

strategies, resource availability, and opportunities for practical training.

Finding gaps between industry expectations and present educational

outcomes is a critical component of this research. In doing so, the study

hopes to offer suggestions for improving the training and curriculum

procedures.

The study investigated the effects of Project Based Teaching

(PBT) and Problem Based Learning (PBL) on the acquisition of electrical

skills. It found that Problem Based Learning (PBL) was more effective in

improving students' mean scores in electrical design skills compared to

Project Based Teaching (Akpan et al., 2016).

According to the study by DAUDA et al., (2018) the role of

technology in assessing students within the EIM trade was not explored.

Research could investigate how digital tools and platforms impact the

effectiveness of assessment strategies. The study identifies a need for

skills in Industrial Installation and Electric Motors, but it does not

explore why these specific skills are critical or how the current

curriculum fails to address them. Further research could investigate the

precise reasons behind the poor performance in these areas

(Ekpenyong et al,. 2024).

The purpose of the study is to gauge a general knowledge and

skills mastery of students enrolled in electrical installation &

maintenance programs. With the need for qualified individuals in the

electrical trade growing, it is imperative that we understand where each

student stands with their knowledge of these programs.

We can determine which areas may require educational

interventions by examining both the theoretical and practical

components. This research will include an in-depth investigation of

performance on tests, hands-on assessments and industry feedback.

The investigation will also look at how well the teachings here have

prepared them to tackle electrical installation and maintenance in

practical scenarios. The findings from this assessment will support

future curriculum design and training methodology. The whole idea is to

improve the quality of knowledge and make sure that students are

ready for their career later on.

Statement of the Problem

This research sought to evaluate the knowledge and skills of grade 11

Technical-Vocational-Livelihood students under Home Economics- Electrical

Installation and Maintenance Student.

Specifically, this study answered the following questions:

General Problem

How effectively do the current industrial methods and assessments in electrical

Installation and maintenance programs measures and develop student practical

Skill and theoretical knowledge?

Specific Problems

1. How may the respondents profile be described in terms of ;

1.1 Gender

1.2 Age

2. To what extent do students apply theoretical knowledge in practical electrical

task?

3. What is the level of knowledge and proficiency in practical skills among

students in The Electrical Installation and Maintenance program on Don Jesus

Gonzales high school?

Hypotheses

These emanate from the statement of the problem. According to Sanchez

(1998), hypothesis serves as a guide in the search for evidence and to state a possible

relationship between one fact and another. The use of the ‘null’ hypothesis is preferred

because it is easier to disapprove. In this section, one assumes that no significant

relationship or difference exists between variables and having done this, one seeks to

ascertain the improbability of the null hypothesis.

SAMPLE Look at the samples below. They simply came from the SOP

The following null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance.

1. There is no significant difference in the retention of the control and

experimental group in the pretest.

2. There is no significant difference in the retention of the control and

experimental group in the posttest.

Conceptual/ Theoretical Framework

The description of the conceptual framework includes as in-depth description

of the theoretical framework chosen for the study. This part should describe how the

theory is related to this particular study through a diagram of hypothesized

relationships between concepts and a description of those relationships. The

conceptual framework may be one that is tested using statistical treatment or

semantic/thematic analysis.

According to Sanchez (1998), the conceptual framework consists of the

investigator’s own position on a problem after his/her exposure to various theories that

have bearing on the problem. It is the researcher’s new model, which has roots in the

previous models the researcher has read. It also includes a discussion of the different

theories or models which proves the underpinning of the study or the legitimate bases

for defining its parameters.

After the narrative discussion of the conceptual framework, a model or figure

or chart must be presented to show the interrelationships between or among variables

relative to the objective or questions to be answered

SAMPLE

This research utilized an Input, Process/, and Output Format.

The frame one (1) was the input, consisted of the sanitary practices, the food

services, and customers’ satisfaction evaluation or assessment of the respondents.

The frame two (2) showed the process, where in the researchers drafted survey

department. It was floated after the approval and treated using statistical treatment or

method. The process indicated also the methodology used to achieve the objectives of

the study.

The frame three (3) was the output, which presented the identified sanitary

practices and food service that correlates to the customers’ satisfaction among the diners

of the Bubusuk restaurant.

The feedback stated whether the sanitary practices and food services do or do

not have significant relationship between or in the customers’ satisfaction.

retained. After the validation, the questionnaire or survey form was floated among the

respondents of the study.

Observation and unstructured interview were also utilized to supplement the

gathered data. The survey questionnaire employed Likert-rating scale. Likert-rating scale

is a psychometric scale commonly involved in research that employs questionnaires

(Manalo, 2017). It is the most widely use approach to scaling responses in survey

research, the term is often used interchangeably with rating scale, although there are

other types of rating scales. Prior to the utilization of the survey questionnaire, pilot

testing was run to determine the reliability and effectiveness of the survey form.

Data Collection Procedure

Emphasis in this section is on how to gather the needed data with the use of a

particular instrument. For instance, if a test is to be administered, will it be given

individually of by group? Will it be in a form of oral or written? What will be the

duration for the completion of the test?

If a questionnaire is to be used, will it be administered personally by the

researcher or via email?

If by interview, will it be vis-à-vis contact, by telephone, or by any other means?

How will you approach the interviewee?

SAMPLE

Before the conduct and the floating of the survey questionnaire, the researchers

wrote a permission letter addressed to the school head for allowing the researchers to go

out of school to collect the data needed. Upon the approval of the school head, the

researchers’ crafted letters addressed to the respondents—restaurant staff.

The selected respondents from Junjun’s restaurant were asked to answer the

survey questionnaire which was distributed to them. Before the respondents fill-out or

accomplish the questionnaire, the respondents were oriented to ensure that they

understand well the study and the questions at hand.

After the collection of the questionnaire, the researchers run and tabulated the raw

data using the Data Analysis in the Microsoft Excel.
