Arce Trivia -Paul Michael Jaramillo-Abigael Marinas UNP President Gilbert Arce described himself in three words: marvellous

s ally, formidable and the one who is willing to sacrifice. Three things he did on his first day at work as president: He met the deans and instructed them to go to the classrooms and evaluate the performance of the faculty. Second, he met the students and informed them what he wanted to happen in the university and he encouraged them to perform also their obligations. After meeting the deans and students, he also met the faculty of the different academic units and informed them what is expected of them under the Arce presidency. What makes him angry: If people are insistent and very stubborn even if they are aware that they are not in the proper perspective, not reasonable. If people tend to be intrusive of his decisions and his plans. If Sir Arce has a time machine: He would control it and let it go with the natural order. He will not let it move fast neither go back to what hehas been. What are the big eye glasses say: He want to picture himself as napaka-tanda na para pakinggan. What he likes to wear during work days: It depends on the occasion. If he has an appointment which requires his presence, he usually wears his barong but in ordinary business days he usually uses his polo. Sometimes he uses business attire. What is the most embarrassing situation he had: He is the one who is first to laugh at his mistakes. Several years ago, he was explaining a lesson; biglang may lumipad na kulangot mula sa kaniyang ilong. Ironically, it happened when he was scolding the class tapos sumigaw siya dun lumabas yong kulangot niya. What are the bad qualities of our president: I easily get angry before whenever kung hindi ko naipagpipilitan ang aking gusto. When you hurt my ego, mag-away na tayo. Interesting trips he had ever taken: Thailand and Singapore One thing that has happened in his life that has made the biggest impact on who is Gilbert Arce today: His childhood experiences. He was exposed to a very humble family. They allowed him to experience everything possible that one to become a potential leader should have. He experienced to sell seaweeds, working at the farm, picking fruit of candaroma and then sell it to pot makers. It was these experiences that transformed him into who he is. It was these experiences that were formed him being a leader. Religious View: Respectful of ecumenism Political View: My party goes with how you pronounce my middle name RIBERAL Favorite Quotation: "Let us work without protest, it is the only way to make life enjoyable"

Conventional After the Core -AirezGamlot-Paul Michael Jaramillo If there are some people (parents, teachers in elementary, high school, college and friends) you would like to thank who are they? Why? I have my personal friend who has been very supportive all the way. He knows me in and out. I am very thankful because he is always there to understand my flight and to give an advice readily when I need it. I am also thankful to my mentors specially those who have trained me in my managerial and administrative skills because if I were not given the chance to hone my managerial expertise the story would have been different. I might not have become the president of this university. But because of the opportunities given to me by my mentors I was able to gain insights as to how my managerial expertise would be develop further. Because when I was already in the actual field as an administrator, I encountered several experiences and lessons which were never found in the books. So, it was this lesson that prepared me better to become your president of the university. When I was still an administrator in my early 30s of the College of Fine Arts (Institute of Fine Arts). Whenever I talk before convocations like meetings of the administrators in the university for example I felt that nobody wanted to listen. I felt like a voice in the wilderness who was telling something but apparently nobody wanted to listen. During those days I even prayed that I would grow gray hairs already so that people would believe. If only to make people believe. What would you like to ask from the god? My constant prayer is for the university to be protected from harm and for the university to be spare from any form of calamities and for everyone in the university to be constantly safe. And then, my personal prayer is since he knows what is good for me bahala na lang siya sa akin. He could continue to bless this university so that it could move on as a premier university. How do you handle change? I handle changes likely. Like for example, there was a problem in Fine Arts when I went there as a director, tinanggal yung director. I will be dealing with the faculty members who were surprised with my presence. There are only two things that possibly happen there, they revolt against me or they cooperate with me. The good thing is that I have learned that for a change be effectively manage you must have a grasp of the whole picture, the whole situation so that you will know where to position yourself, you will know your entry points. Basic also in managing changes is a very strong foundation of your ability to relate with other people. You should have a very high human relations skills because if you do not know how to relate, if you do not know how to empathize, then most likely you will fail in managing changes. You have to understand other people, you should have a good grasp of psyche of other people, and you should have a good amount of human relations skills. All these are factors in managing changes.

What is one big mistake that you've made in your life, and what did you do to make it right? Even if it is a mistake, I consider it as a mistake. I never thought my mistakes as mistakes but learning opportunities. Learning opportunities that would give me lessons. It was never a mistake because if you say it is a mistake, something bad. Thats my attitude towards my errors.

Whats the best piece of advice your parents has given you? Not my parents probably but the persons who cared me, what they would constantly told me was in everything you do, you give your best and never think of a reward. So that you will have nothing to repent about because a time lost can never be regained. Once you lost your time, once you lost your chance; you can never get it back.

Are you going to change the UNP motto that Sir Tacbas brought? We will live by it in the truest meaning of the word not in the hypocritical word. We will not disregard the values that our former president has started. We will continue this and we will live by the real meaning of these words. That is what can assure under the Arce administration.
