Module 2 Mastery Assessment: Basic Router Configuration

Introduction and/or Background

In order for devices to communicate, basic settings must be configured and then testing.

Objective

In this project/lab the student will:

● Use the Packet Tracer network simulation program to configure basic router settings. ●
Use VLSM to implement an IP Addressing scheme
● Implement the IP Addressing scheme on the routers, switches and PCs

Assignment

Use the following Packet Tracer file for this assignment: Basic Router Configuration

Equipment/Supplies Needed

● Packet Tracer network simulation program

● Computer with Internet connection to upload the completed assignment

Topology
Addressing Table
Device Name Interface IPv4 Address/Mask Default Gateway

ISP S0/1/0 N/A

CyberSecurity G0/0 -256 N/A

G0/1 -249 N/A

S0/1/0 NA

LAB 256 VLAN 1

LAB 249 VLAN 1

256-1 FA0/0

249-1 FA0/0

Requirements:

IPv4 Addressing:
∙ Create subnets that meet the host requirements using 192.168.0.0/24, yes you WILL have to use
VLSM
∙ Lab 256: 19 hosts
∙ Lab 249: 41 hosts
∙ WAN link: 2 hosts
∙ Document the assigned IPv4 addresses in the Addressing Table

PC Configurations:
∙ Configure the assigned IPv4 address, subnet mask, and default gateway on 256-1 and 249-1. The
assigned IP addresses should be the last available IP address (last host) on the given
subnet.

Router Configurations:
∙ Configure the device name according to the Addressing Table
∙ Disable DNS Lookup
∙ Assign class as the enable secret password
∙ Assign cyber as the console password and enable login
∙ Encrypt all plaintext passwords
∙ Create a banner that warns anyone accessing the device that unauthorized access is prohibited (2
points)
∙ Configure G0/0 and G0/1 interfaces on the CyberSecurity router. The address used should be
the first available IP address (first host) in the given subnet

Switch Configurations:
∙ Configure the device names on each switch, according to the Addressing Table (1 point) ∙ Configure
the VLAN1 interface on each switch with the IPv4 address and subnet mask according to your
addressing scheme. The address used should be the second available IP address in the given
subnet (8 points)
∙ Configure the IP default gateway on each switch (3 points)
∙ Assign itnw2321 as the enable secret password on each switch (3 points)
∙ Assign switch as the console password and enable login on each switch (3 points) ∙
Encrypt all plaintext passwords (2 points)

Verify Connectivity:
• All PCs should be able to ping all the devices and the Internet (216.134.15.8) (12 points)

Grading Rubric
Assessment Item Point Value

VLSM IP Addressing Scheme 20 Points

PC Configurations 20 Points

Basic Router Configuration 20 Points

Switch Configurations 20 Points

Connectivity Between Devices 20 Points

Once the assignment is completed, save it as Module 2 Mastery Router Config and upload
BOTH the document and Packet Tracer file for grading.
