Transport Methodology
The TMS enables system administrators and technical consultants centrally manage the
transport configuration of multiple R/3 systems.
Transport domain: All R/3 Systems that are planned to manage centrally using TMS
form a transport domain.
Transport Domain controller: The R/3 System with the reference configuration is
called as the transport domain controller. All the R/3 systems hold a copy of this
reference configuration.
RFC are generated when TMS is configured for R/3 systems to communicate with all R/3
systems in a domain.
Transport Group: The SAP systems that share a common transport directory tree form a
transport group.
Logon to the R/3 system, which is to be Transport domain controller using SAP* or any
user having similar authorization in to 000 client.
It will propose the system as Transport domain controller, provide the description and
click on Save

From the Transport management screen, select Overview menu and select Systems
Place the
cursor on
SID and
Select SAP
System

Logon to
000 client on
the R/3
system
which is to
be included
into domain
and use
STMS. It
will propose
the system
as Transport
domain
controller.

Select the Button Other Configuration and Provide Description and Target Hostname
of Transport Domain and Instance number and Click Save
Logon to 000 client of domain controller and use TCODE STMS, Select Overview menu
and select Systems
place the cursor on the R/3 system that is waiting for inclusion and Select SAP System
menu and Select Approve

Click Yes.
Distribute the
TMS
configuration by

Backup Domain Controller: Backup domain controller holds the copy of the reference
configuration and configuration changes can be managed when transport domain
controller is not available.
Click Save

USING TMS:
SAP Transport (STMS) Methodology Praveen Bheemarapu
TMS is a new interface in SAP R/3 version 4.x to the tp commands. To open TMS in
SAP, use the following procedure.
Log onto any system/client in the transport route (domain controller is preferred,
but not required) Go to transaction STMS. Select OVERVIEW->IMPORTS from
the main menu or click on the “Truck” icon at the left. (as shown below)
TMS is not necessarily updated when you open it. It is recommended that you
refresh the screens at this point to get the current number of transports in the
buffer. Select EDIT->REFRESH or click on the refresh icon.
Log onto any system in the transport route (domain controller is preferred, but not
required)
Cd ../usr/sap/trans/bin
In TMS:
Click on the transport number you would like to import and select REQUEST-
>IMPORT from the main menu. The following warning appears click on the
green arrow to continue.
The dialog box below appears. Type in the target client. If you would like to use
import options, click on the tool icon, otherwise click on the transport truck.

The system will pop up message if you want to add this to the import queue of P10
Say yes .

Once the request is added to the Buffer , Select the request .Then
The system Prompts you for Target client .(Figure 2: Import Dialog Box)
Click on The tool box select 2 Preconditions for import. (Figure 3: Import Options)
