POSITION PAPER

Country: Australia
represented by Tseng, Yen Chen, and Lee, Hong Li
Committee: ECOSOC
topic: Cybersecurity
In this generation, our information and lives are translated into
digits, then sent to interconnected machines, people tweet, mail,
shop, and do more. Our lives rely on these machines—consequently,
cybersecurity problems or illegal content arose. People make fishing
websites, or scam webs, to get money, or threaten someone. These
crimes were known as cybercrime. Research points out that
cybercrimes increased by 13% due to Coronavirus. on average, the
Office of the eSafety Commissioner receives a cybercrime
notification every 8 minutes. And ASD(Australian Signals
Directorate) found that more and more hackers use web shells to
infiltrate the victim's network to make commands remotely. This
issue has a close relationship to other issues, such as privacy, and
personal information. Australia believes it to be a major issue.

In 2022 Australia established” The Online Safety Act 2021”.This is

legislation that makes Australia’s existing laws for online safety
more expansive and much stronger. The law keeps pace with
advances in technology and the predicaments that Australia faces
online, such as harmful behavior and toxic content. These modern
times of rapid change and social upheaval need robust new laws.
The new powers in the Online Safety Act cement eSafety’s role as a
world leader in online safety. They place Australia at the
international forefront in the fight against online harm.
Also, The government Invested $928 million in the “c yber Enhanced
Situational Awareness and Response” or “CESAR” project. It aims to
develop the country's internet safety to prevent the ill effects of
cybercrime on Australia, and it will ensure that the ASD can identify
more cyber threats, disrupt more foreign cybercriminals, build more
partnerships with industry and government, and protect more
Australians.
Last but not least, Australia believes that the fundamental solution to
cybercrime lies in the establishment of strict Internet control and
policies. Australia suggests that search engines should prioritize fixing
security vulnerabilities in web applications, strictly regulating the
access rights of web applications, and regularly monitoring the
integrity of files. And applications. And, to prevent web shells and any
inappropriate content, scan every website that was posted. Those
who are guilty of cybercrime will be fined and the website will be
deleted. And this can come with use with the other cyber-laws. That
way nationals can use the internet without any concern. Enterprises
and companies can be hacker-free, and inventions won’t be stolen.
To sum up, cybersecurity makes everyone’s lives better and makes
them more convenient.
