Lecturer
Prof. Dr. Aysevil SALMAN DURMUŞLAR
Office: B-233 Phone Ext: 1633 E-mail: [email protected]

Course Description and Objective

The Physics 112 L course is aimed at students who intend to major in Engineering Faculty. The first
objective of this course is to prepare students with fundamental knowledge of physics necessary for higher
engineering courses. The second objective is to help students to improve their capability of analytical
thinking. We will cover kinematics, forces, momentum, energy, rotation, statics, fluids. We will need basic
algebra, simple trigonometry and a little bit of calculus.

Course Requirements Grading Policy

 Two laboratory hours per week (Phys 112L).
Lab works % 70
 Submit the experiment reports at the end of the
experiments. Setup % 10 % 10
 Take online quiz exams
Performance % 20

WARNING! Students should attend at least Online Quizzes % 10

80% of the lab-works; otherwise they will fail
the course.

Laboratory Rules
 Before the laboratory session, the video recording of the presentation and the video recording of the procedure of
experiment will be uploaded by instructor. Every student should learn these presentation and procedures carefully
if he/she wants to take the data from the experiment correctly during the lab session and to get the higher grade.
 Every student should work on the subject related to the experiments to be done in that day.
 At the end of each lab. session, students have to write a report by their groups using the data taken by themselves
during the laboratory session and the laboratory textbook provide, and submit their reports to the instructor.
 If a student does not attend the laboratory more than one times then he or she will fail in the laboratory. There
will be no make-up session for the experiments.
 Eating, drinking, smoking, and using mobile phone are not allowed in the laboratory.
 Scientific calculators are allowed in laboratories. However, calculators with preprogrammed information are not
allowed in exams. Violations of this rule might result in automatic failure in the course and disciplinary
proceedings might be initiated.

Academic Integrity
You are encouraged to study together as groups and to discuss information and concepts covered in lectures. You may
help friends or receive help but only at the level of discussion. If you intend to work together in order to complete
a laboratory report, you must declare the names of the fellow students on your laboratory report. Without any
such reference, laboratory reports that resemble one another will yield a mark of zero. In other words, students
who provided material to be “copied” and students who “copied” will both receive a mark of zero for that laboratory
report.
Communication of any form is strictly prohibited during all examinations. You may not compare answers, copy from
others, or collaborate in any way. Any collaborative behavior or PERCEIVED collaborative behavior during
examination period will result in a mark of zero for the examination and may lead to failure of the course and prompt
disciplinary action by the university.
