1 A farmer bought 540 day-old chicks at the cost of 2000 FCFA for
every six chicks and transported them home at 40500 FCFA.
Calculate
(a) find the total cost of the day - old chicks
(b) the total amount spent to have the chicks at home
The farmer fed the chicks for three months using 10 bags of
feed every week. Given that each bag cost 12500 FCFA ,
(c) calculate the amount he spent on feeding the chicks. He paid
labour at 25000 frs CFA, per month and also spent a total of
120,000 frs on vaccination.
(d) calculate his total investment in the poultry
The farmer lost 5 fowls. Given that he sold all the remaining
fowls and made a profit of 25 % on his total investment,
(e) find the selling price of each fowl to the nearest one hundred
francs.
2 (i) A rectangle has a perimeter of 36 cm : Given that the length
of the rectangle is x cm :
(a) Show that the width of the rectangle is (18−x)cm.
Given that the width of the rectangle is twice its width,
(b) find the value of x ,
(c) find the area of the rectangle, using the value of x found
above.
(ii)
In figure 1, the shaded area shows a circular shaped flower bed
ABCD , where AB and CD are arcs of circles, centre O .
The larger circle has radius 3.5 m and the smaller a radius of
1.5 m . A fence, made of barbed wire is used to enclose the
flower bed.
Find, to one decimal place,
(a) the total length of the fence,
(b) the area of the flower bed
3 (i) The three sets F, G, and H are defined as follows:

7 i)
In figure 3, O is the centre of the circle and PT is a tangent to
the circle at B. Calculate the size of
(a) angle ACB .

(ii) Use a ruler and compass only and show all construction
lines.
(a) Construct a circle with centre O and radius 6 cm .
(b) Draw a diameter XOY of the circle.
At X and Y construct lines making angles of 60∘ with XOY. These
lines must be inside the same semi-circle. Where the two
