Class 9 Mathematics

Chapter: Quadrilaterals and Heron's Formula

Total Marks: 50

Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

Instructions:

1. All questions are compulsory.

2. Show all necessary steps in your calculations.

3. Use Heron's Formula only where required.

Section A: Short Answer Questions (2 Marks each)

1. Prove that the opposite angles of a parallelogram are equal.

2. In a quadrilateral ABCD, AB || CD and AD = BC. Prove that ABCD is a parallelogram.

3. Calculate the area of a triangle with sides a = 7 cm, b = 24 cm, and c = 25 cm using Heron's Formula.

4. Prove that the diagonals of a rhombus bisect each other at right angles.

5. In a trapezium ABCD with AB || CD, if AB = 8 cm, CD = 12 cm, and the height between AB and CD is 6 cm, find its

area.

Section B: Medium Answer Questions (3 Marks each)

6. In a parallelogram ABCD, if angle A = 70 degrees, find the measures of angle B, angle C, and angle D.

7. Show that the diagonals of a rectangle are equal and bisect each other.

8. Find the area of an equilateral triangle with each side measuring 10 cm using Heron's Formula.

9. In a parallelogram ABCD, diagonal AC bisects angle DAB. Show that ABCD is a rhombus.

10. In triangle ABC, the lengths of sides a, b, and c are 13 cm, 14 cm, and 15 cm respectively. Find the area of the

triangle using Heron's Formula.

Section C: Long Answer Questions (4 Marks each)

11. Prove that the sum of the angles of a quadrilateral is 360 degrees.

12. In a quadrilateral ABCD, the diagonals AC and BD intersect at O. Prove that if AO = OC and BO = OD, then ABCD

is a parallelogram.

13. A field is in the shape of a quadrilateral ABCD where AB = 9 m, BC = 12 m, CD = 15 m, and DA = 8 m, with the

diagonal AC = 14 m. Find the area of the field by dividing it into two triangles and using Heron's Formula.

14. Prove that the diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other.

Section D: Very Long Answer Questions (5 Marks each)

15. In a quadrilateral PQRS, PQ = 12 cm, QR = 14 cm, RS = 10 cm, SP = 15 cm, and the diagonal PR = 13 cm.

Calculate the area of triangle PQR and triangle PRS using Heron's Formula and find the total area of quadrilateral

PQRS.

16. Prove that the opposite sides of a parallelogram are equal in length and parallel.

17. In a triangle, the lengths of the sides are 15 cm, 18 cm, and 21 cm. Find the area of the triangle using Heron's

Formula and then find the altitude corresponding to the longest side.
