Detailed Lesson Plan in Math

Grade 4

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils are expected to:
a. identify different kinds of quadrilaterals: square, rectangle, parallelogram,
trapezoid, and rhombus
b. create different kinds of quadrilaterals
c. demonstrate curiosity and engagement by participating in discussions and
group activities related to quadrilaterals.

II. Subject Matter: Quadrilateral

cartolina.
Strategy: Collaboration Approach

III. Procedure
Preparatory Activity

B. Review

Okay pupils let’s have a review of our

past lesson about triangles. Answer it
with YES or NO.

Are you ready? Yes, teacher!

1. Does an isosceles triangle have 2 Yes, an isosceles triangle has 2equal sides.
equal side?
2. Does an acute triangle have an No, an acute triangle has 3 acute angles, each
obtuse angle? measuring less than 90degrees.
3. Does an equilaterals triangle have Yes, an equilateral triangle has 3equal sides.

5. Does a right triangle have a right Yes, A right triangle has a right angle which
angle? measures 90°

C. Motivation

Class, are you taking a bath every day? Yes, teacher.

Why we need to take a bath every day? If we take a bath everyday it makes us clean
and healthy.
After taking a bath, how do you dry
your wet body? What do you use to dry We dried our wet body by using a towel.
your body?

What is its shape? Rectangle.

Developmental Activities

a. Setting of standards
Before we start our lesson for today,
what will you do when the teacher is talking
here in front of us? Sit properly, listen carefully

Another?
Very good! Participate in class teacher!

b. Presentation

Now, looking at this chart, there are

different figures I put here. Can you name it? Yes, teacher!

Square, rhombus, rectangle, trapezoid, and

parallelogram
What do you call all these figures? These figures are called quadrilaterals

Very Good Pupils!

Discussion

Now, this time we are going to learn

about quadrilaterals. As we go on with our
lesson, I want you to listen and observe
carefully so that you can understand what the
lesson is all about.

Are you all ready? Yes, teacher!

As we look at the word quadrilaterals,

the first four letters are quad it means four and
lateral means sides.

So, we are talking about two

dimensional objects. Shapes that have four
sides. And quadrilaterals are polygons with
four sides and four angles.

Now, here are the different kinds of

quadrilaterals:

First is Parallelogram. It is a
quadrilateral whose opposite sides are parallel
and equal.

Second is Rectangle. Rectangle is a

parallelogram whose opposite sides are parallel
and equal in length. It also has four right
angles.

Third is Square. The square shares

characteristics with both the rectangle and the
rhombus. It has four equal sides and four right
angles.

Fourth is Trapezoid. It is a quadrilateral

that has exactly one pair of parallel sides.

And the last one is the Rhombus. As I

mention a couple minutes ago, a square is also
called a rhombus that’s because rhombus is a
parallelogram with four equal sides. It has no
right angles.

So, let’s go ahead and let’s give it a try

now.

What polygon that is a quadrilateral has

4 right angles, and all the sides are equal?
Square teacher!
That’s right! It’s a square.

All right what if it has 4right angles but

the sides are not all equal?
Rectangle teacher!
Okey, so 2 sets of parallel sides and the
sides are all equal, but they are not all right
angles. And that would be a parallelogram.
Parallelogram
And what about two sets of parallel sides
and the sides are all equal but they are not 90-
degree angles. And that would be a rhombus.
Rhombus
Okey, last one. Only 1set of parallel sides
and sides are not all equal. Remember 1 set of
parallel sides. And that would be a trapezoid.
Trapezoid
Did you understand our lesson?
Yes teacher!
Do you have any questions?
No, teacher!
Application

Okay class let’s have an activity. I will

divide the class into 4 groups. This will be the
group 1,2,3, and 4.

For, Group 1, I want you to make a

quadrilateral shape using this popsicle stick
and glue. Then paste it in the board.

Am I clear?
Yes teacher!
For the Group 2, I want you to cut all the
quadrilateral shape using this colored paper
and scissor. Then paste your work in the
manila paper I will be given later.

Do you get me group 2?

Yes, teacher!
For the Group 3, I want you to form a
box like a Rubik’s cube using these materials I
have right now, then in every side of the box
draw the quadrilateral shape and the other side
of the box right the word “Quadrilateral”.
Do you understand?

And for the group 4, I want you to draw Yes, teacher!

a house using the quadrilateral shapes. Draw it
in the cartolina I will be given later.

Do you get me group 4?

your classmates.

I will be giving you 5 minutes to do the Yes, teacher!

activity.

Am I understood?

D. Evaluation
