Applications for Post-Doctoral Fellows in the Energy, Environment & Climate Change Program

National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) was conceived and founded in 1988 by the late Mr. J. R.
D. Tata, who sought to create an institution to conduct advanced multidisciplinary research. Housed
in a picturesque green campus, the Institute serves as a forum to bring together individuals from
diverse intellectual backgrounds, in the natural and life sciences, humanities, social sciences, and
conflict and security studies (https://www.nias.res.in).
The Energy, Environment and Climate Change Program (EECP) at NIAS is currently implementing two
innovative research projects – (i) a study sponsored by the “Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor in
the Govt. of India to “Study the interactions between Energy Security, Environment, and Climate
Change,” and (ii) a collaborative study to “Identify emission hot spots and developing high-resolution
emission inventory of major air pollutants using drone technology in Bengaluru,” sponsored by the
Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute (EMPRI), Govt. of Karnataka. We now seek
qualified and enthusiastic candidates for two Post-Doctoral Fellow positions to drive these projects.
Essential Qualifications:
Ph.D. (Atmospheric Science/ Meteorology/ Environmental Science /Physics/Chemistry/Earth Science
System and Technology /or equivalent subject) from a reputed University /Institute with
demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas (one candidate each will be selected
from these areas depending on availability):
• Atmospheric (regional/global) chemistry transport and/or Chemical-transport modelling for
impact assessment /forecasting with hands-on experience in running air pollution /climate
models or multi-dimensional air quality models like WRF-Chem, relevant for inter-disciplinary
research and policy formulation.
• Emission inventory development or Source apportionment of air pollutants or related work,
relevant for inter-disciplinary research and policy formulation.
In case the formal award of the Ph.D. degree is still pending, the eligible candidate must have defended
his/her thesis successfully and enclose a letter from their University/ College/ Institution to this effect
along with their application.
Fellowship and Tenure:
• The fellowship amount for this position is Rs 47,000 p.m. + HRA (currently 27% of the basic
fellowship amount).
• The initial appointment will be for one year which can be extended further depending on the
availability of project funds and the selected candidate’s performance.

email) of three referees along with scanned copies of their M.Sc. and Ph.D. certificates and marks
sheets, two relevant first-author publications in the relevant field, and a brief statement of interest
(< 1000 words) explaining their research plan in undertaking the project if given this opportunity.
