Internet:- The Internet is a worldwide network of computer networks that evolved from
the first networks ARPANET(Advanced Research Projects Agency network). The Internet is
a Super-network. It connects many networks together and allows all the computer to
exchange information with each other. To accomplish this all the Computers on the
Internet have to use a common set of rules for communication, Those rules are called
Protocols, and the Internet uses a set of Protocols called TCP/IP(Transmission Control
Protocol/Internet Protocol).

Uses of internet

(i) It provides information on any topic.


(ii) We can perform banking operation.
(iii) Book airline/railway/cinema tickets.
(iv) We can check exam results.

Advantages of the Internet:->

(I)Online Banking and Transaction

(ii)Online jobs, Online Education

(iii) Entertainment

(iv) New job roles

(v) Best communication medium

(vi) GPS Tracking and Google maps

Disadvantages of the Internet:->

(i)Time wastage

(ii) Bad impact on health

(iii) Cyber Crimes

(iv) Effect on children

(v)Spreading negativity

2. Intranet:- A private network utilized by a company might be referred to as an intranet. Its


main objectives are to support safe staff communication, information archiving, and
teamwork. Employees can create profiles, submit, like, comment on, and share posts using
social intranet features
Example:- an intranet is used by different organizations and only members/staff of that
organization have access to this. It is a system in which multiple computers of an organization
are connected through an intranet

3. WWW:-> WWW means World Wide Web, which is also known as a Web, is a collection of
websites or web pages stored in web servers and connected to local computers through
the internet. The World Wide Web (WWW), is the world's dominant software platform . It
is an information space where documents and other web resources can be accessed
through the Internet using a web browser. These websites contain text pages, digital
images, audios, videos, etc. Users can access the content of these sites from any part of the
world over the internet using their devices such as computers, laptops, cell phones, etc.

4. website :-A website is a collection of many web pages, and web pages are digital files
that are written using HTML(HyperText Markup Language). To make your website
available to every person in the world, it must be stored in Web Server. The website’s
web pages are linked with hyperlinks and hypertext and share a common interface and
design. The website might also contain files such as images, videos, or other digital
assets.
we can also say that a website can also be thought of as a digital environment capable of
delivering information and solutions and promoting interaction between people, places, and
things to support the goals of the organization.
Components of a Website: These are the components for making a website.
 Webhost: Hosting is the location where the website is physically located. Group of
webpages (linked webpages) licensed to be called a website.
 Address: Address of a website also known as the URL of a website.
 Homepage : It is the first webpage that appears when a visitor visits the website.
 Design : It is the final and overall look and feel of the website
 Content : Every web pages contained on the website together make up the content of the
website.
 The Navigation Structure: The navigation structure of a website is the order of the pages,
the collection of what links to what.
5. webpage :-A webpage is a digital document that is linked to the World Wide Web and
viewable by anyone connected to the internet having a web browser. It can contain any
type of information, such as text, color, graphics, animations, videos, sounds, etc.
A webpage is a document that is written in the HTML, it can be viewed from the Internet. It
can be accessed by entering the URL on the address bar of the web browser.

Content-wise the components of a webpage are: Hypertext and Hyperlinks
Hypertext :
It refers to a digital text, which is more than just text as it can include information in
various media formats such as :
 text
 color
 graphic
 animation
 video
 sound
 hyperlinks
Hyperlinks :
It refers to a link from a hypertext file to another such file. A hyperlink can be in the form
of a graphic or text, upon clicking where the linked document opens up
Structure Wise : -
Structure wise the components of a web page are :
(i) Page Title
(ii) Header
(iii) Body of the Web page
(iv) Navigational Links
(v) Footer
6. URL :-URL means Uniform Resource Locator. It is the resource address on the internet.
The URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is created by Tim Berners-Lee and the Internet
Engineering working group in 1994. URL is the character string (address) which is used to
access data from the internet.
A URL contains the following information which is listed below:
 Protocol name
 A colon followed by double forward-slash (://)
 Hostname (domain name) or IP address
 A colon followed by port number
 Path of the file
7. Web Server:-Basically, web servers are computers used to store HTTP files which makes
a website and when a client requests a certain website, it delivers the requested website
to the client. For example, you want to open Facebook on your laptop and enter the URL
in the search bar of google. Now, the laptop will send an HTTP request to view the
facebook webpage to another computer known as the webserver. This computer
(webserver) contains all the files (usually in HTTP format) which make up the website like
text, images, gif files, etc. After processing the request, the webserver will send the
requested website-related files to your computer and then you can reach the website.
Different websites can be stored on the same or different web servers but that doesn’t
affect the actual website that you are seeing in your computer. One web server can
handle multiple users at any given time them.

8. Web Browser:-> A web browser is application software for accessing the World Wide Web
or a local website. When a user requests a web page from a particular website, the web
browser retrieves the necessary content from a web server and then displays the page on
the user's device. A web browser is not the same thing as a search engine, a search engine
provides links to other websites. However, to connect to a website's server and display its
web pages, a user must have a web browser installed.
Features of Web Browser:-
A web browser consists of several features:
 Home Page: Whenever we open a browser, the first web page which loads is called the home
page.
 Address (URL) Bar: The URL of the website that has to be accessed is entered here. Through this
bar user can access different websites or search anything on browser.
 Navigation Buttons: Using the forward and backward buttons user can revisit previously opened
web pages.
 History: If you visited a website and want to revisit it after a few days but have forgotten the
address of website then don’t worry as every browser has a history where it collects all previously
visited data.
 Bookmark: This feature helps in quickly accessing websites. If you come across some important
web page you can always bookmark it for easy access in future.
 Refresh Button: The refresh button reloads the page and shows updates if any.
 Home Button: It brings the user to home page which can be set by user.
 Tabbed Browsing: Using this feature a user can open multiple web pages in the same web
browser so that they can easily switch between them.
