To compose a notice using correct grammar and appropriate formatting.
Specific Objectives:

Interpret the prompt provided to produce a well-written notice.
Determine relevant information to be placed in the notice.

Write at least one notice with relevant information that is appropriately punctuated.

Content Summary
A notice is a written or printed announcement.
It is written in order to inform a large number of people about something that has happened or is
about to happen.
It could be an upcoming event, competition, lost and found notice or just a piece of information
to be delivered to the targeted audience.
It is generally written in a formal tone.
Notices are factual and to the point. The language used is simple and formal, not flowery. They
are put on display boards in schools or a public places.
Types of Notices
A competition
An excursion trip
A lost and found notice
An exhibition
A notice should include the five Ws
What is going to happen? (that is the event)
Where it will take place?
When it will take place? (date and time)
Who can apply or is eligible for it?
Whom to contact or apply to? (that is the issuing authority)
Format of a Notice
A notice should contain all the necessary details such as:
Name of the issuing agency (school, etc.)
Date of Issue/ Release of the Notice
Title/ Subject of the Event
Body- Date/ time/ duration/ place/ venue (when and where)
Authorized Signatory: Name and Signature
Important Information:
Repetition of any information should be avoided.
Keep your notice short, crisp and to the point.
Highlight the word NOTICE and TITLE. It can be either bold or underlined.
The title should be captivating and eye catching.
Do not make hypothetical information and facts. Make use of what is given in the
question, however additional information can be included if relevant to the notice.
Your answer shall include answers to all the 5 W’s What, Why, When. Where and Who.
Engagement
Students will be asked to listen to an audio-clip of Vybz Kartel advertising the upcoming
Freedom Street concert. The following focus questions will be written on the board before the
audio is played.
What is the purpose of the audio?
How effective was the audio?
If the audio was a written advertisement then it would be classified as?
Exploration:
Students will be asked to explore the five W’s based on the Freedom Street event being
advertised in the audio.
Explanation:
Students will be provided a definition of notice and a sample of the format. Teacher and students
will collaborate to respond to the following question.
The event management company, Altitudes Expeditions, has organized an Adventure Trip to
Disney World during the next school break for interested students of 4th and 5th Form.
As president of the Excursions Committee, write a notice informing students about the trip and
inviting them to join.
Elaboration:
Students will be placed in groups and asked to respond to the following sample question.
You are the outgoing president of your school’s students ‘council. Elections for a new executive
is scheduled for Friday 25th June 2020 at 10:00 am at your school’s auditorium. The following
positions on the executive will be available:
President
Vice President
Treasurer
Secretary
Students need to be informed that the president of the students’ council must be a fifth form
student. Further, students must vote for a candidate for every position available. Write a notice
that will be placed on the students’ notice board. In your answer you will be assessed on how
well you
Your notice MUST be in continuous prose. Make sure to include all the relevant details in the
notice so that students will be fully informed of the elections.

following checklist.
