Extra credit

For extra credit, you have the opportunity to earn additional points by writing definition
sentences. There are 17 definition sentences provided, and you will need to write each sentence
by hand 20 times.

Here’s how the points will be awarded:

● First 5 Sentences (100 total): If you write the first 5 definition sentences 20 times each,
you will earn 2 summative points that will be added to your lowest quiz score.
● First 10 Sentences (200 total): If you write the first 10 definition sentences 20 times
each, you will receive 5 summative points.
● All 17 Sentences (340 total): If you complete all 17 definition sentences 20 times each,
you will earn 8 extra points.

1. Type A blood has A antigens and anti-B antibodies.


2. Type B blood has B antigens and anti-A antibodies.
3. Type AB blood contains both A and B antigens but has no anti-A or anti-B antibodies,
making it a universal recipient.
4. Type O blood has no A or B antigens and contains both anti-A and anti-B antibodies,
making it a universal donor for blood transfusions.
5. Agglutination is the process in which antigens clump together in response to the presence
of specific antibodies.

12. Leucocytes, or white blood cells, fight against infections and foreign invaders.
13. Thrombocytes, or platelets, are essential for blood clotting by forming plugs at injury
sites.
14. Polymerase Chain Reaction produces millions of copies of a specific DNA sequence
from a small amount of DNA in-vitro.
15. Restriction enzyme is a degradative enzyme that recognizes specific nucleotide sequences
and cuts DNA at these sequences called restriction sites.
16. Antigen is a foreign substance in the body (also sugar found on the surface of these cells)
that stimulates an immune response.
17. Antibodies are proteins produced by the immune system to identify and neutralize
foreign substances.
