CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT:

Good morning class! Good morning, ma’am Kate!

Please pick up all the pieces of papers (Student pick up the pieces of paper
under your chair and arrange your chair and arrange their chair)
properly

Very Good! How does everyone feel We are all fine maam!
today? How about you?

I’m also feeling great today……

Anyways……

ATTENDANCE:
Miss secretary may I know the number (Class secretary stand up)
of absent today? And who are they? I am proud to say that everyone is
present ma’am! (Smile)

I’m happy to hear that! (Smile)

MOTIVATION:

Class, please count 1-3 because I will (The class count 1-3)
be forming you into a group

Who is 1? Please go to the right side, 2

please go to the middle and 3 please go Ok ma’am
to the left side.

Alright so I’ve got some numbers here

that you can translate into letters of the
alphabet to create a word that relates to
our discussion today.

Group 1 here are your numbers Group 1 = Thank you ma’am!

12, 15, 14, 7

Group 2 Group 2= Thank you ma’am!

4, 9, 22, 9, 19, 9, 15, 14

Group 3 Group 3: Thank you, ma’am!

13, 5, 20, 8, 15, 4

I will give you 3 minutes to finish

that………. your timer starts now! (The students start to answer)

(The given time ended)

Ok time is up! Group 1 what word did (The Group 1 leader stand)
you create using those numbers?
LONG ma’am!

Next group 2? (The Group 2 leader stand)

DIVISION ma’am!

Last group 3? (The Group 3 leader stand)

METHOD ma’am!

Alright! So, all of your answers are (Ms. Vice President raise her hand)
correct! But if you will connect those
words, what would be our topic for
today?

Yes Ms. Vice President? LONG DIVISION MEHOD ma’am!

Yes Correct!

PROPER DISCUSSION:

• Engage (5 minutes)

This morning our lesson is all about

dividing polynomials using long division
method with or without remainder. At the (The student listens very carefully to the
end of the lesson, you are expected to: teacher)
(a) Distinguish the major steps in using
the long division method; (b) Apply the
long division method into complex
division problem; (c) Understand the
importance of mastering long division for
answering complex mathematical
problems.

[Writes on the board] Let's start with (Isabella raise her hand)
something familiar. Who can tell me the Maam!
answer to 42÷7?

Yes Isabella? Isabella = It’s 6!

Good! And how did we find that answer? (leo raise her hand)
Maam!

Yes Leo? Leo = By using long division. We divide

42 by 7, which gives 6 ma’am.

Exactly. When we divide, we follow a

series of steps, right? Divide, multiply,
subtract, and then bring down the next
number if there’s one. We keep
repeating until we finish the division.
This method works for numbers, but it
also works for expressions that include
variables, called polynomials

𝑥 + 5 ÷ 𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 − 25𝑥 + 50

Now, here’s a question: has anyone Angela: I think so ma’am, but I’m not
seen a division problem like this with x's sure how we would start.
in it? Do you think we can divide it just
like numbers?
Angel: Maybe we do it step by step like
Hmmm? Anyone? regular division ma’am?
Yes! We can divide it in a similar way.
This is called polynomial long division.
Just like with numbers, we'll start by
dividing the first term here, 𝑥 3 , by the
first term of our divisor, x. We’ll then
multiply, subtract, and bring down terms
until we finish

• Explore (10 minutes)

So today I will be teaching you on how

Yes ma’am!
to use long division method on solving
complex problem, are you ready
everyone?

To start, we need to set up our problem

just like we would with numbers. Let's
put the divisor, 𝑥 + 5, outside and the
dividend, 𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 − 25𝑥 + 50, inside.

Teacher sets up the division on the

board and explains: It’s important to
arrange terms in descending order and
to add a placeholder if any terms are
missing.

Example: 𝑥 4 − 3𝑥 + 5

Is this the correct dividend?

No ma’am!

Because there is a missing degree, the

Why?
3 and 2.
Ok very good! Class always remember,
when you write out the dividend, make
sure that you insert 0’s for any missing
terms.

Example: 𝑥 4 + 0𝑥 3 + 0𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 + 5
Understood class? Yes ma’am!

Try to arrange these terms in

descending order and to add a
placeholder if any terms are missing.
1. 𝑥 3 − 3𝑥 + 5 (Using their scratch paper, they try to
2. 𝑥 2 + 𝑥 3 − 3𝑥 − 5 arrange terms in descending order and
3. 5 + 𝑥 − 6𝑥 4 to add a placeholder if any terms are
4. −3𝑥 + 5 missing.
5. 𝑥 4 + 7𝑥 2 + 𝑥

• Explain (15 minutes)

Step 2: Divide 1st term of dividend by

first term of divisor to get first term of the
quotient

Example: 𝑥 + 5 𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 − 25𝑥 + 50
How about the number 5 in the divisor

1st term of divisor 1st term of ma’am?

dividend

It’s in the step 3 class don’t be excited

(laughing) (Class Laugh)
So, this is what you’ve waiting guys the
step 3: Take the term found in step 2 (The student listens carefully to the
and multiply it times the divisor. teacher)
𝑥2
Example: 𝑥 + 5 𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 − 25𝑥 + 50
𝑥 3 − 5𝑥 2

Means: 𝑥 2 (𝑥 + 5) = 𝑥 3 + 5𝑥 2

Did you understand class? Yes ma’am! (smile)

Really? Ok next step 4: Subtract this

from the line above
𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 − 10 (Some students are taking notes from
Example: 𝑥 + 5 𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 − 25𝑥 + 50 the discussion)

−𝑥 3 − 5𝑥 2
−3𝑥 2 − 25𝑥

Means = −(𝑥 3 + 5𝑥 2 ) = −𝑥 3 − 5𝑥 2

Now class what do you think is the next

step? Repeat the process until done ma’am!

Correct!

Step 5: Repeat until done

−3𝑥 2 /𝑥 Class? −3𝑥 ma’am!

-3x (x + 5)? 3𝑥 2 + 15𝑥 ma’am!

𝑥 2 − 3𝑥
𝑥 + 5 𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 − 25𝑥 + 50
−𝑥 3 − 5𝑥 2
−3𝑥 2 − 25𝑥
3𝑥 2 + 15𝑥

−3𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 2 ? 0 ma’am!

-25x + (15x)? -10x ma’am!

Ok bring down -50

So -10x/x? -10 ma’am!

-10(x + 5)? -10x - 50 ma’am!

-10x + 10x? 0 ma’am!

-50 – (-50) That will become -50 + 50 ma’am!

Because negative times negative
equals positive.
Yes correct! This will become -50 +
50….

-50 + 50? 0 ma’am!

So, is there a remainder? Or none? None ma’am, because the quotient of -

10x-50 and 10x + 50 is 0.

Wow amazing! So, what is our quotient? 𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 − 10!

𝑥 2 − 3𝑥 − 10
𝑥 + 5 𝑥 3 + 2𝑥 2 − 25𝑥 + 50
−𝑥 3 − 5𝑥 2
−3𝑥 2 − 25𝑥
3𝑥 2 + 15𝑥
−10𝑥 − 50
10𝑥 + 50
0

I love this class so much because you

are all so smart, and you easily get the
steps! Nice! (smile)

Again, what is our first step? Set up the long division

Second? Divide 1st term of dividend by first term

of divisor to get the first term of the
quotient.

Third? Take the term found in step 2 and

multiply it times the divisor

Forth? Subtract this from the line above

Fifth? Repeat until done

And lastly? Write out the answer

Excellent! (Laughing)
I know that you’ll find the today’s
discussion easy because you already
familiar with on how to solve using
simple long method. But always
remember class it is really important to
master the long method because it will
help you to become prepare for more
advanced math concepts.

Now do you understand the importance Yes ma’am, long division help us to
of long division in solving complex solve the complex mathematical
mathematical problem? problem easily and make us
understand the given problem clearly.

Nice! I’m happy that you really

understood our discussion today.

Any clarification or question about our NONE ma’am!

topic?

• Elaborate (10 minutes)

Now make 4 groups that consist of 4

members:
Member 1: do the division
Member 2: do the subtraction (Students find their group mates)
Member 3: do the multiplication
Member 4: cheeker if the final answer is
correct and double check if the solutions
are complete.

I will give you a one solving problem and

what you are going to do is to answer
that one with complete solution. The 1st
and 2nd group who will give me a correct
answer with complete solutions have a
prize from me.

I will only give you 10 mins. To answer (The student cooperates with their
that problem. And your timer starts now! groupmates to answer that problem)

Given Problem: 𝑥 − 2 2𝑥 3 + 𝑥 2 − 6𝑥 −

3 mins later>>>>>>>>>
Group 4 = Done ma’am!

Sure, ma’am Kate, here (The student

Wow! may I see? stand and give their answer to the
teacher)

Yes Correct! Wow you already

understand our topic huh (laughing), you (Student Laugh)
will get your reward later.

How about the other 3 groups? Group 1-3 = Done too ma’am!

May I also, see? (they give their answers to their

teacher)

Correct! All 0f your answer is correct! I’m Your always welcome ma’am and also
impressed class, you make me happy your good at explaining the topic ma’am
today, Thank you! so that’s why it is easy for us to
comprehend what have been discussed
so thank you also ma’am.

It’s my pleasure class! (Smile)

EVALUATE (5 minutes)
On a one whole sheet of yellow paper
write a reflection on:

• What you’ve feel today? Why?

• What part of today’s discussion is
your favorite? why?
• What have you learned? (As the students answer the given

part of the activity, and how did focus on what they’re doing)
your group handle it? Or What
challenges did you encounter,
and how did you overcome them?

In a maximum of 4 paragraph, I will give

you 5 minutes to answer that one. Your
timer starts now!

(The time ended)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Ok class time is up! Pass your paper in (The student passes their answers
front. Infront)

That’s all for today discussion class,
