CELEBRITIES
Introduction:
There are thousands of cinema celebrities.
-Some appear in just 1 film, and we never hear of them again
-And there are others that quickly become famous, and are asked to do
one film after another.
How does a film star become an all-time celebrity?

Some of the most popular actors working in Hollywood, such as
Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, have a fact in common,
they can “open a film”. This means that if people see their names
in the cast list, they will go and see their films. Although the film
had a bad review, audience will still go and see it, for the actor.
Paparazzis are another reason why celebrities stay in the news,

these are obsessive photographers who follow celebrities and
take pictures of them wherever they can. This means that
celebrities often don’t have privacy.
Their work is to take the picture that nobody else can get, this can
lead to annoy the celebrity so they turn to the cameras with angry
of aggressive faces.
Another fact that makes a film-star an all-time celebrity is that

they appeal to several generations.
● TOM HANKS: it’s been more that 30 years science film
audiences fell in love with him through films like Splash, The
Money Pit and Big.
He has given some incredible performances, and his films
have earned billions of dollars.
He is still earning awards today, the most recently, for his
roles in Bridge of Spies (2015)
He also received the Medal of Freedom (2016) that is the
highest honour awarded by the president of the United
States.
● WILL SMITH:
He is another celebrity who attracts large audiences to any
film he takes part to.
He played the main role in the epic sci-fi film (independence
day) this film made him a major celebrity in hollywood.
He rapped the theme song of the film Men in Black, this made
Will Smith to become even more successful.
● BRAD PITT:
An interesting fact to explain about him, is that before he
became successful at acting, Brad Pitt was working as a
Chauffeur (moving fridges and dressing as a giant chicken
while working for El pollo loco.
Pitt gained his first recognition as an actor in the film
Thelma & Louise, where he was acting as a cowboy.
He was first married to actress Jennifer Aniston and then to
Angelina Jolie, that he met her on the set of Mr & Mrs. Smith,
who they both played the main character.
Pitt received 3 Best Actor Oscar nominations.
EUROPEAN CELEBRITIES:
● the most popular crowd pulling film stars is Antonio
Banderas.
● Antonio Banderas: Was discovered by film director Pedro
Almodóvar and starred in several of his films. Antonio
moved to Hollywood in 1989 and made influential contacts
there.
● 1991, Madonna introduced him to the US acting scene. first

didn’t speak English well. He didn’t stop him for giving an
excellent performance in his American film (The Mambo
Kings) in 1992
● Tom Hanks in philadelphia(1993), he gained wide
recognition and then shared the screen with Brad pitt in
(interview with the Vampire )the following year.
● Spanish actor(Javier Bardem) is another European celebrity
who has succeeded in Hollywood. He became famous in
Spain in 1992, with an early role in Jamón, jamón. He starred
opposite his future wife (Penélope Cruz) he married in 2010.
● Javier Bardem: was the first Spanish actor to be nominated
for an Oscar for the film ( Before Night Falls) 2000, and the
first to win one for his role in( No country for Old men) 2007.
He has appeared in many films.
What about the famous actresses of Hollywood?

● There are many talented female
- Scarlet Johansson
- Nicole Kidman
- Cate Blanchett
- Emma Watson
● the critics consider Meryl Streep to be the best actress of her

generation. She holds the record for the most Oscar
nominations (21) has won it three times for Kramer vs
Kramer (1980), Sophie’s Choice (1983) and the Iron Lady
(2012).
● Jennifer Lawrence: one of the highest paid actresses in the
world. With her films grossing over 5.5 billion worldwide, she
is extremely successful and the only person born in the
1990s to have an Oscar, which she did in 2013. for her part in
(Silver Linings Playbook.
● Penélope Cruz: born in Madrid in 1974, studied classical
ballet at a young age but soon discovered her love of acting.
She was signed bu an agent at 15, and first appeared on TV
at 16. Her first film was Jamón jamón in 1992. After this, she
moved to Hollywood to follow her acting dream. She has
appeared in films such as ( Belle Époque, Abre los ojos and
Vanilla Sky).
● Cruz has worked with Pedro Almodóvar in several films, like
(volver) for which she received an Oscar nomination in 2006.
She was the first Spanish actress to win a Academy Award
for the film (vicky cristina barcelona)
