Recap of Previous Lecture :
Recap of Previous Lecture :
Points to Remember :
1. Quadratic Equations are represented as
a𝑥 2 + bx + c = 0, where a ≠ 0

2. Discriminant (D) = 𝑏 2 - 4ac

* If D > 0 ---------- Roots are Real & Unequal
* If D = 0 ---------- Roots are Real & Equal
* If D < 0 --------- Roots are Imaginary (Complex Roots or No Real Roots)

3. If one of the roots of Quadratic Equation is (x + 𝑦), then other root can be represented as (x − 𝑦)
& vice versa.

4. If 𝛼 & 𝛽 are the roots of quadratic equation a𝑥 2 + bx + c = 0, then

−𝑏 𝑐
Sum of Roots (𝛼 + 𝛽) = & Product of Roots (𝛼𝛽) =
𝑎 𝑎

5. If 𝛼 & 𝛽 are the roots of quadratic equation, then equation can be represented as 𝑥 2 - (𝛼+𝛽)x + 𝛼𝛽 = 0

Representation of Solution on Number Line :

a. (-2, 4]

b. (-1, 4)

c. [-1, 4] – {2}
Inequalities :

Representation of Solution on Number Line :

d. [-1,4] + {7}

Inequalities :

Points to Remember :
1. Many simple inequalities can be solved by adding, subtracting, multiplying or
dividing both sides
𝑥
e.g. 5 − 2𝑥 ≤ −8
6
Inequalities :

Points to Remember :
2. But, Following things will change direction of the inequality:
• Multiplying or dividing both sides by a negative number
• Swapping left and right hand sides

e.g. -4x > -12

Inequalities :

Points to Remember :
3. Don’t multiply or divide by a variable (unless you know it is always positive or
always negative).
