Course, Year, and Section: BSCE-1C

Instructor: Rodel Bacomo

Course Title Description: Chemistry For Engineering

Reflection 1

Day 1 had everything from the basics of chemistry all the way to
energy The reports of Roilo and Jhon Lerenz, for example, are aspects of
Nanotechnology as reflected in chemistry. With the help of their explanations
of site atoms, ions compound molecules and certain other related topics
slowly became clear. These were important stepping stones along what
might otherwise have been a very confused path toward understanding
matter and chemistry. In retrospect, these basic ideas helped to establish a
common language for chemistry. This common language is elementary for
beginners in the field. They act as the foundation of more complex thoughts
and phenomena, giving future generations of intelligent individuals.

Darren Earl Abejuela based on such a foundation much widened the

subject matter: solutions, colloids, concentration, acids, bases; chemical
bonding and reactions. The delivery of his report may have been lacking but
he did explained well about his topic, which would mean he has studied his
part. The later topics of chemical bonding and reactions are particularly
important in this respect since they constitute a major focus for
understanding behavior by chemical substances and interactions between
different processes. Lorie Joy Cullantes emphasized the importance of atomic
structure. This is largely responsible for the fact that isotopes have become
so important in defining properties: a vital tool in all fields of science. Her
discussion of protons, neutrons and electrons, as well as atomic models,
deepened the audience’s insight into how atomic structure affects both the
types and behavior of elements. She played her part very well and the
audience are in awe of her public speaking skill, which is a good
characteristics of a reporter.

After classifying the elements and going over metals, nonmetals,

metalloids, and noble gases, Jolans Estenzo wrapped off Day 1. He brought
the subject more approachable by engaging an interaction with his audience
with a game. In his talk, he emphasized the usefulness of elemental
classification in practical fields like engineering and material science.
Day 2 saw a shift in emphasis to energy, starting with Vincent Ayala’s
review of the elemental classification. He emphasized the significance of
firmly establishing core knowledge while reiterating previously taught
principles. Repetition is essential for comprehension and retention since it
gives students a solid understanding of the subject matter. After introducing
the idea of energy, Dindo Cullantes examined its sorts, nature, forms, and
units. His methodical approach was helpful because it clarified what is
sometimes an enigmatic idea. He offered an insight of how energy functions
in different systems by classifying energy into kinds, such as potential and
kinetic energy.

Building on this basis, Raymart Dandanon’s talk on heat capacity and

calorimetry covered the equations related to energy transfer. This subject is
essential for both real-world applications like thermodynamics and climate
science as well as lab settings. Dandanon’s focus on real-world applications
strengthened the applicability of energy principles and increased audience
interest in them.

The day’s investigation of electrochemical energy by Janeth Faith

Montero included a look at more specialized subjects such as batteries,
capacitors, fuel cells, redox reactions, electrochemical cells, and electrolysis.
Her talk demonstrated the complex relationship between chemistry and
energy in addition to highlighting the importance of electrochemical
processes in contemporary technology, such as energy storage and
renewable energy sources. Studying the relationship between chemical
reactions and energy transformation is essential, especially in light of
sustainability and the evolution of energy systems.

All things considered, the talks throughout the two days offered a
wealth of information that skillfully combined basic chemistry with ideas
about energy. Each reporter made a valuable contribution to the
comprehensive understanding of these subjects by highlighting the
significance of building on basic knowledge in order to investigate more
intricate systems. The conversations made clear how important chemistry is
to comprehending energy and the wider ramifications for environmental
sustainability and technology. This all-encompassing method not only
improves academic learning but also equips students with the critical
thinking skills necessary to address the problems and advancements in
science that lie ahead.
